If you enjoy twisty, electrifying, and suspenseful stories that keep you guessing, then "Her Hiding Place" by Shannon Hollinger is an ideal choice. The story presents a startling locked-room mystery set in an isolated resort in the Florida Keys. As a hurricane looms and bodies begin to pile up, a desperate faces the daunting task of safeguarding her daughter.
"Her Hiding Place," introduces readers to Charlotte, the unreliable narrator of this thrilling tale. The details provided allow the reader to determine that Charlotte escaped an abusive life. Despite this, the past constantly haunts her. As the story progresses, the reader discovers that she is hiding from someone, prompting her to go on the run with three-year-old Alice. To ensure their safety, she secures a housekeeping job at a remote resort in the Florida Keys. However, while staying at the resort, she learns her past is not the only thing that poses a threat. The impending hurricane forecasted to hit the Keys, and a killer threaten her plans to keep Alice safe.
The story that unfolded was well-paced. The suspense builds steadily as the reader attempts to find answers to the many clues spread throughout the narrative. The flashbacks into the past added a layer of intrigue, while Charlotte's attempts to hide Alice in plain sight heightened the mystery. The murders, coupled with the threat of the hurricane, intensified the suspense and thrills. This one kept me guessing the entire time. One will find themselves suspending belief regarding the hiding of Alice. How can a three-year-old remain quiet and undetected while being alone for most of the day?
Listening to the audiobook while reading the eBook was a delightful experience. Kelly Burke's narration was superb, bringing the characters to life and adding depth to the story. I'm thrilled for the opportunity to enjoy this story through both mediums.
The epilogue provided a satisfying conclusion. Overall, it was an exciting read that I highly recommend to those seeking a good thriller.

I really enjoyed this one! The author’s writing style felt similar to Freida McFadden with lots of unexpected twists and turns!! I listened to the audiobook and the narrator was phenomenal. I listened to this one in less than a day and it held my attention from beginning to end. Highly recommend this one!

Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture for the audio ARC - and not a moment too soon!
2.5* rounded up
Charlotte is desperate, low on money and on the run. She's about to start an ideal gig, housekeeping for a resort in Florida with room and board included. But the kicker is her baggage; her 3-year-old daughter, Alice, is coming with her, and no one can know. After all, you can't keep a job like this with a toddler in tow. So with Alice stashed away in her room, Charlotte cleans away. But when a huge hurricane barrels down upon the island, it quickly becomes clear that Charlotte has more to worry about than staying hidden...
A slow burn with a very paranoid main character, this grated on me after awhile. It felt repetitive to hear about how concerned Charlotte was over and over with nothing happening, and then of course everything happens in the last chunk of the book. Some of the twists were predictable; the others, I have no idea how the antagonist happened to do what they did. Charlotte is both insanely paranoid and also weirdly innocent and trusting. The juxtaposition felt nonsensical. All in all, a lot of eye rolls, but I liked the book enough to plow right through to finish before pub day.

Her Hiding Place by Shannon Hollinger follow a young mother Charlotte has taken a job as a maid for a new resort that is on an island off the coast of the Flordia Keys. Charlotte hasn't been totally honest with her new employeers. Charlotte is hiding a secret in her room in the attic. Alice is 3 years old and has been told to keep quiet as a mouse during the day and not to open the door for anyone but for Charlotte. Now a hurricane has developed off the coast of Florida. Will the staff evcuate in time before the Hurricane Lillian makes landfall? How will Charlotte get Alice to safety without the others seeing her leave with the little girl. The only one person that has discovered Charlotte"s secert is Leo the manager of the resort and has a plan in place to get safely off the island. This was a fast -paced book that will keep you on your toes. I would like to thank both NetGalley and Bookoture Audio for letting listen to an advanced copy of this audiobook.

A seemingly desperate woman with a past and a big secret...gets a job cleaning in a resort hotel where she receives food and accommodations. Turns out she needs both of these to hide away her child while she works. With a cast full of somewhat sketchy characters, Charlotte is wary of whom to trust...and rightly so. An impending hurricane makes things even dicier and everyone is scrambling to get ready for it. This is a perfect example of how your true selves might come out during a high-stress time. I found this overall entertaining, but had trouble finding anyone to root for. Some of the circumstances and twists are pretty far-fetched and somewhat easy to predict.
Overall recommended for thriller lovers looking for a quick read where you don't have to think too hard. The narration for the audiobook was sometimes good but not always spot on for the different voices she was trying to achieve.
Thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for this ARL. All opinions are mine.

Her Hiding Place was an intense psychological thriller. If you are looking for a fast paced thriller, this is one to read! It has tons of twists and turns and has you sitting on the edge of your seat. I could wait to continue listening to it.
Overall, I think it was a good story and the audiobook was well done. I will be looking forward to more books by the author.
Thank you Netgalley for a copy of the audiobook.

So I'm usually not a big fan of locked room mysteries, but I wholeheartedly enjoyed this ride! I think for me, it was the mother/child aspect. It felt like a 90's cult classic movie, like Sleeping With the Enemy -- In this case, a woman with a secret past, shows up for a job at a resort on a Florida island where she knows nobody. She already has another secret she's trying to keep from them, so she does her best to keep her head down and just do a good job as a means to an end. However, a hurricane is barreling towards the resort and suddenly, people start to disappear -- did they run? Or, were they murdered? Everyone looks guilty all of the sudden and before long, even I felt the unnerving feelings towards a few of them.
I know, this could sound like Clue, too! haha! (I did love that movie!) But I swear, the twistS were worth it. Great book -- and yes, if you haven't guessed, I could totally see this as a screenplay!
4.5 ⭐️
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for letting me listen to this so quickly! The narration was perfect!

“Her Hiding Place” by Shannon Hollinger was a thrilling read that kept me guessing from start to finish. The locked-room mystery aspect was expertly done, and the claustrophobic atmosphere of the story was enhanced by the hurricane that loomed over everything. The tension was palpable, and I found myself hooked throughout.
The audiobook was fantastic! Even though it featured a single narrator, she did an amazing job bringing the characters to life with distinct voices for each one. It really helped immerse me in the story and added so much depth to the experience. Highly recommend it to anyone who loves a gripping, suspenseful mystery.*

What a page turner!… Absolutely breathtaking … I can’t believe I read this book in one sitting , it was so gripping

This had a lot of potential, the story line was unique and I enjoyed the premises. However, there were a couple main things that just were so unrealistic I couldn’t get past it! The age of the child for this scenario was too far fetched. The audio version and narrator was enjoyable. I also felt like the ending was rushed, even with an epilogue I feel as there are some loose ends.
I appreciate the opportunity from NetGalley and Bookouture for the audio ARC.

Thank you so much to @bookouture and @netgalley for the complimentary audiobook!

Wow, this audiobook had me on the edge of my seat from start to finish! I couldn’t stop listening and finished it in one day. Her Hiding Place is a fast-paced, intense, and chilling locked-room mystery, packed with suspense and twists. The isolated setting of the resort adds a palpable sense of tension, and the mystery surrounding Alice kept me hooked. The mix of characters, each with their own secrets, creates an atmosphere of uncertainty and danger that really kept me engaged. I didn’t see that ending coming at all—it was a heart-pounding ride right to the very last page.
The narrator did an incredible job bringing the story to life, keeping me completely absorbed in every twist and turn. If you're a thriller fan, I highly recommend listening to the audiobook—you won’t be disappointed! I can’t wait to check out more from this author.

Her Hiding Place by Shannon Hollinger
Thank you to NetGalley and BookOuture for my audio of this book which releases on 31 January.
Charlotte gets a job as a housekeeper on an island for a resort which is set to open in two weeks. She has many secrets, one of them is that she has a little 3-year-old girl who she must keep hidden from the rest of the staff. She has managed to smuggle little Alice into her attic room and has to ensure that the little girl stays quiet during the day while she is out working in the resort.
A couple of days after she arrives there is a notification about a hurricane that will hit the island and there is talk about having to evacuate. Just when Charlotte thinks that she will have to take someone into her confidence about Alice, a body is discovered. Can she trust anyone on the island? Charlotte isn’t the only one keeping secrets.
The story also goes back a few years in time and we get flashes of what has happened to Charlotte in the past but not enough to know why she and Alice are hiding – and from who.
The build up of the hurricane makes for great tension as the story ramps up and we realise that Charlotte and Alice are stuck on the island with a killer.
The narrator was great with the various characters.

This was an amazing narrator! She used different character voices, which I love! The story was equally as captivating from the very beginning. I thought I had it figured out, then she proved me wrong! Don’t forget to read the epilogue for a smile.

I loved the fast pace of this popcorn thriller! It had all the classic elements of a locked-room thriller—an isolated island, a storm, and a killer hiding in plain sight—but still felt fresh and exciting. The stakes were high, and the tension built steadily as secrets unraveled and the danger hit closer to home.
While a few twists were predictable, others genuinely surprised me, making it hard to put down. A gripping and atmospheric read—4 stars!
Thank you, NetGalley and Bookouture, for my ALC in exchange for my honest review.

Kept me interested from the beginning all the way through to the end! I had ideas of who might be behind some things, but really like to just enjoy the read - and this did not disappoint!!! So much going on to keep you interested and not lost! Did not even want to take a phone call as I wanted to finish the book!
Very well written and keeping enough twist to hold your attention! Highly recommend!

Oh this is good. It is survival, a locked room mystery, and an unreliable narrator.
I know Alice seems way too mature for 3 and the whole reason our girl is there is weird but it is good. I love the narration too!

Her Hiding Place by Shannon Hollinger and narrated by Kelly Burke was a psychological thriller that will have you hooked from the beginning till the end. The audiobook was excellent and the narrator Kelly Burke was brilliant,
Charlotte is down on her luck and she accepts a job as a housekeeper in a remote island resort which offers temporary housing, food and the pay is ok. This resort is just about to open so everything has to be perfect before they invite their first paying guests.
But Charlotte has a very young child called Alice and she has to hide her during the day whilst she works. Alice has to be quiet as a mouse which can be hard for a 3 year old. Alice has been through so much in her short life especially as Charlotte as to keep her a secret from everyone for more reasons that anyone could ever guess!
But what are they running away from and why?
A massive hurricane is heading straight their way and they may all be trapped on this remote Island, with no means of escape, They will have to fight for their lives….......from the hurricane. But, there is also a murderer hiding in plain sight at the resort!
Will Charlotte and Alice survive the hurricane and the murderer?
WoW......This audiobook was so good I loved it especially as it will have you sitting on the edge of your seat with all the twists and turns throughout..

Charlotte takes a job as a maid at an isolated island resort, secretly hiding 3 y/o Alice, in her roon. When a storm threatens to hit, Charlotte needs to find a way to get Alice off the island before their secrets are discovered.
The story touches on serious themes like physical abuse, but overall, it leans toward a light, popcorn thriller.
There’s a lot of buildup to the storm, and while the drama does kick in afterward, it took too long for me. I wanted more action sooner. I know suspenseful buildup works for many, but I prefer faster-paced plots.
I listened to the audiobook at 2.5x speed, which made it a quick and easy listen. If you’re new to audiobooks or hesitant to try one, this could be a great option—it’s simple to follow and not overly complicated.
I really enjoyed the flashbacks—they added depth—and while the twist didn’t shock me, it still caught me off guard. The tied-up ending was satisfying too.
This would make a fun vacation read: light, engaging, and easy to dip in and out of. Perfect if you’re looking for something entertaining without too much emotional weight.
Thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture Audio for access to this audiobook ARC in exchange for my honest review

I listened to the audio version of this book, and the narrator did a nice job. I did find the content of the book to be very predictable. With a psychological thriller, I really want to be shocked. I struggled to get through it towards the middle of the book but pushed on. The pace did pick up towards the end. Unfortunately, I wasn’t surprised by any of the twists. Even though this wasn’t my favorite, I encourage others to give it a chance. Overall, the premise was very interesting, and it’s a quick read. Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture Audio for providing me with an ALC in exchange for an honest review.
