I’ve read many books from Gemma Rogers and was thrilled to read her new one The Night Shift. Nina is a night shift worker/medical student who works at a storage facility. She likes this job because it’s quiet and she can study during working hours.

After having an argument with her boyfriend, Nina arrives at work and things start to go terribly wrong. This is an edge of your seat thriller with twists and turns that will keep you on the edge of your seat. I highly recommend this book!!

Gemma Rogers delivers a gripping, tension-filled thriller with The Night Shift, a story that had me hooked from the very first page. πŸ“–πŸ”₯ The novel brilliantly captures the eerie isolation of working alone at night, making it the perfect setting for a cat-and-mouse game filled with suspense. πŸ±πŸ†šπŸ

Nina is working nights at a storage facility to fund her way through university. She mans the desk and checks customers in and out. One night a man is acting rather suspiciously and puts Nina on edge. When her phone goes missing things take a turn for the worse, not helped by the fact that the phone alerts Nina to her blood sugar levels as she is type 1 diabetic and has to be carefully controlled. As things progress can Nina get out and escape from danger?

From the outset this is one of those edge of your seat reads where I kept turning to find out more. It's a locked room-time limited scenario which makes the tension bristle between the pages. Gemma is a skilled author who has the talent for putting the reader right there with Nina and experiencing the uncertainty. A thrilling roller coaster of a read. Hold on to your seat and enjoy!

3 stars. First I need to say I love this author's books. This one, not so much. So Nina is a medical student who works a few nights a week at a storage place. She works the night shift so she's able to do her homework and study. No one comes in at night to do any storage. Until tonight. Can Nina get through her 12 hour shift alive? This book was full of action and grabbed me up to about the 40 percent mark. Then it slowed way down to a crawl. A lot of repetition. I was hoping her shift would end soon so I could finish the book. It ended with a bang though. Very very good ending which redeemed this book. I love this author's writing style and plots. This one just simply missed the mark with me. I do, however, recommend it. Thank you to Netgalley and Boldwood Books for the ARC. I greatly appreciate it.

Sorry not for me got bored with first few chapters and predictability of it. New to thrillers might like this but the slow start put me off.

Gemma Rogers’ The Night Shift is the PERFECT locked-room thriller full of tension, twists, and sheer adrenaline. Had me on the edge of my seat the whole way through!!

Nina, a college student who works the night shift at a storage facility for peace, quiet, and the perfect study time, ends up getting absolutely none of that. What was supposed to be just another 12-hour shift spirals into a relentless game of cat and mouse when an unexpected visitor turns the night into pure, heart-pounding chaos.

Interesting points: Multiple POVs, locked-room suspense, cat-and-mouse tension, Type 1 diabetes, scary premise, and a strong female lead who refuses to go down without a fight.

This is a must-read for thriller fans who love high stakes and non-stop suspense!

I have not read a book by Emma Rogers before, however, that’s going to change after reading Night Shift.

This book grabbed me from the start and kept me up late reading so I could find out how it ended. I loved the pacing, how this all happens within 12 hours… I couldn’t put it down! There were a few repetitive moments but easy to look over as a whole. Not very many books make me want to willingly lose out on sleep, but this is definitely one of them!

Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for an arc copy in exchange for a honest review.

At first, I was slightly sceptical how a 12-hour night shift with one member of staff in a storage facility could possibly fill a whole book, but it definitely can.

Nina is a medical student with a part-time job doing the night shift at a local storage warehouse. It’s ideal because it’s very quiet and she can get on with her studies. Nina is also T1 diabetic and wears a continuous blood sugar monitor which sends warning notifications through her phone.

Users of the storage units can only get in between 6pm and 6am by using the door code that’s given only to them. But Nina has to do regular physical checks of the three floors of the facility through the night, and what if someone lets themselves into the building whilst she’s away from reception?

A brilliant storyline with lots of twists and turns.

Thank you to NetGalley and Boldwood Books for an advance reader copy in return for an honest review.

I’m a big fan of Gemma Roger’s so was extremely excited when I saw this one.
Did this live up to my expectations? Absolutely it did!
I myself, have worked the night shift for years, so was able to relate to a lot of it. ( Mine was in a completely different environment ), but there were still only minimal people on duty.
The author has a real way of building tension, anxiety, nerves and fear whilst telling her stories, making them engaging and immersive.
I really did enjoy this book, it’s another 5 star read from Gemma Rogers.
Would recommend this happily to everyone.

Thanks NetGalley for the ARC of The Night Shift by Gemma Rogers published by Boldwood Books
Gemma is one of my favorite authors. I'll drop what I'm doing to read her next book. And of course she doesn't disappoint with this novel.

She has weaved a story that keeps you locked in and that takes place over less than a 24 hour period. Action packed and full of interesting characters. Amazing description of the events that take place.
The story is told primarily by the main character Nina, but we also get insights by a few other characters throughout the novel. Nina is one tough cookie to say the least. I loved reading this story. The author had done an incredible job at using one location and a short period of time and turned it into a full length novel. It is fast paced, with twists and turns that I didn't see coming, a real page turner.
The story also bring some awareness to Diabetes, specifically Type 1
Thank you Gemma for writing amazing novels. I'm looking forward to the next🀩

I have worked the night shift too and I understand our main character Nina, when she says she loves to do it because of the peace and quiet, but I would not want to trade places with her. I loved to have some co workers around in case...Β

Nina should be in a safe environment, surrounded by security camera's and so on, but when someone wants to harm you and they are inside the 'safe' space with you, that's when it all becomes very, very dangerous.Β

Lots of shadowy places to hide in are an advantage, but on the other hand it also means the baddies can be lurking everywhere without you noticing them...

I loved the fierceness and braveness Nina showed us and I did not see the outcome coming. I utterly enjoyed this thrilling book. 5 stars

Thank you

Wow. This has got to be made into a movie! Talk about edge of your seat suspense. I felt like I was in the storage building right alongside her. Love the tension with the killer and this is only heightened with the addition of her diabetes and the drama that ensues- yikes I don't think I took a breath reading this! Very well done.

If you’re a fan of Gemma Rogers you will enjoy this one
The story got me right from the second I started it. It had a decent pace, but I did find it became a bit repetitive in some parts of trying to find a way out of the building. The twist in it were good and you don’t see them coming or at least I didn’t.
It’s always scary working a night shift. Especially when having to deal with the public. You never know what the night will bring and this night brought a lot more then Nina could have expected
A good quick read for a raining day. If you like locked door thrillers then you need to pick this one up.

I could not put The Night Shift by Gemma Rogers down. I was hooked from page one. The pacing was intense, and the storyline was intriguing. The twists and turns kept me reading well into the night.

I liked the main character, Nina. She was strong and tenacious. I didn't see the many twists coming.

I would recommend this book and this author. The story was original and the descriptions had you feeling right in the action.

A locked room thriller set in a storage warehouse at night? The lone attendant is a female, and she's also a diabetic? This one had all the right things to be a five star read.

Nina is about to start a 12-hour shift at Storage Queen. She was hoping for a quiet night, but she and her boyfriend had a huge fight right before her shift, her boss was annoyed by her slight tardiness, and soon after her boss leaves, a man rolls a suitcase into the facility that seems to be unusually heavy.

The first 30% of the book was on point. The action was intense, the fear was real, and I couldn't turn the pages fast enough. However, things started to drag, and it felt like I was reading the same thing over and over again. Luckily, the twist was surprising enough to redeem the slow spots, and this ended up being a pretty good read.

Thank you to NetGalley and Boldwood Books for the early copy. This title is expected to publish March 6, 2025.

The Night Shift is a medium to fast paced story that switches gears very early from the get go. We are introduced to Nina, a night shift worker/medical student working at a storage facility who has just discovered a shady character lurking around.

Along with her Type 1 diabetes, it is hard to watch Nina struggle to stay healthy as she tries to figure out and outwit a criminal in the small storage building with no one responds to her alarms for help.

Although everything takes place in the storage unit building, there are a number of twists and characters that keep popping up with every turn.

It did seem to lull around 3/4 through the book and the plot started to feel a little dragged out - was anyone coming even after all that commotion? After the lull, a few more twists were thrown in to wrap up the main story of the plot and why things happened the way they did.

The added singular chapters from the POV of several side characters felt a little bit redundant and didn't add much to the plot as it felt more like an overexplanation.
