This was my first Veronica Henry book, I have several on my TBR list but this was the one that made it to the front. What a fantastic book to start with. I was hooked right from the beginning, I loved the different view points and the time jumps to fill in the blanks. I loved watching the Chateau come to life and was fascinated in how Lismay organised it all and healed her heart in the process.

Then the modern day view of Connie who I could identify with as an a woman of a certain age and grown children, it’s hard to find your identity again, even harder when your partner decides to leave you for an older woman. Connie still has a lot to give but feels like she has no purpose, once again the Chateaux works its magic and she takes everything in hand and breathes new life into it along with herself.

The side characters really added to the story and loved how they all helped each other be the best versions of themselves. Christmas in the Chateaux was magical and Connie dug deep to realise her worth and find her new dream.

Amazing from start to finish, I think I might have to shuffle my TBR pile a bit and read another one very soon.

What a fabulous story! I really enjoyed reading about the chateau and its residents. The story evolved so beautifully and I think most people will be able to empathise with at least one of the characters (if not more!); I know I certainly was rooting for Connie!
Definitely one for the recommendation pile, add it to your TBR immediately!

Connie has reached a crossroads in her life. Middle-aged, separated from her husband, jobless. Not feeling the best, she takes the opportunity to temporarily run her godparents' château in Provence.
This book is so evocative, you can almost smell and taste the joys of Provence.
A wonderful read.

This was such a lovely story with so much going on in it all the time. Romance, sadness. Excitement and set in beautiful surroundings. I could picture the area as I was reading. A perfect read from Veronica. I do enjoy her books. My thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for giving me the opportunity to read this book in return for an honest review.

Connie is drawn back to her beloved Provence after losing her job and a nasty break-up. When her god-parents invite her to look after their chateau, Connie jumps at the chance for a change of scenery. But when she arrives, has Connie bitten off more than she can chew? The chateau is run-down and more importantly, receiving bad reviews from guests. Can Connie revive it's fortune, with its eclectic mix of staff to help her?

Then there's the distraction of Remy, Connie's fling from 20 years ago, who just happens to run the vineyard next door. As you would expect with Veronica Henry, it's not all plain sailing for the newly acquainted pair.

I really enjoyed reading One Night at the Chateau. As always Veronica Henry finds a new setting and a new twist on a traditional romance tale, and you will love meeting all of the characters.

Connie's husband has blind sided her; she's lost her family unit, her dream house and is feeling stuck. So when her Godmother calls needed help, she goes straight away to The Chateau Villette.

This is a charming story to be enjoyed by francophiles with chateau dreams! It's got themes of friendship, interiors, determination, grief and love. I really, really enjoyed it. The characters are likeable and how Connie and Liam's stories are interwoven works well. Trigger warnings of infertility are needed but it's just a really enjoyable book.

I love Veronica’s writing, I have read all her books and i always wait longingly for her next one to come out. This did not disappoint. It’s Pure Veronica, with her fabulous descriptive writing, from her mouth watering foods to her places you long to visit. As always her Characters draw you in and you can’t wait to find out their story. This one told in duel timeline, tells of Connie and her Aunt and how a beautiful Chateau ties them together. Along with some other very interesting characters throw in too. It’s a pleasure to read and I highly recommend as a feel good page turner. Thanks so much to the publisher and Netgallet for this early read.

Thank you to NetGalley and Orion Publishing Group for this ARC.

Lismay and Piers bought Château Villette in Provence in 1985 after they discovered they couldn't have children. It was a somewhat spontaneous decision but they brought the château up to date and ran it like a B&B for 40 years.

Now Piers needs to get a hip operation and for some reason it has to be in London so they ask their goddaughter Connie to help out. Connie is 50, her husband has left her for an older model, her job has folded and she needs to sell the house, so she grasps the opportunity for a few months in the French sun with both hands, especially as she hopes to see Rémy Gaspard again who she had a fling with when she was younger and visiting.

There are quite a few flashbacks to 1985 which were interesting and gave Lismay and Piers more depth, but they took me out of Connie's story every time. Also, Piers and Lismay's complicated financial plan made no sense to me, nor did their business plan of "one night at the château". Daily handovers are a lot more labour intensive and expensive (so many sheets and towels to wash!) but apparently these two didn't have money problems, what with Piers earning well, and after selling their house being able to buy a small "bolthole" in London as well as renovating the château.

I loved the description of the French setting, with mouthwatering food and wine across the seasons. It's a lovely escapist story about bringing back to life not just a building but also the people connected with it. I loved all the characters, especially Lilou and new friend Fiona. The third-act break-up was annoying but it was the only conflict in an otherwise cosy and heartwarming story, full of people of all generations, helping each other out. The clean romance was not overpowering in this tale of friendship and second chances. Recommended.

Connie's world has been turned upside down, so when her godmother Lismay needs her help at her chateau hotel in France, she rushes to her side. Can Connie help save the business, and soothe her broken heart at the same time?

Beautifully set, with some wonderful descriptions of the location. I loved the way the story interweaves between characters and times, revealing just enough of the history of the characters in each chapter. Some very emotive subject matter is handled very sympathetically. A lovely read.

Wow!!!! This is an absolutely wonderful totally charming new classic book from Veronica Henry. What a joy to read!! Gorgeous escapism in Provence, France, full of delicious French classic food, vineyards and wine, chic and fabulous fashion, multi generational families and so much more. This book is full of ‘la quintessence!’ Love and romance at its very best, loved this tale!! Beautifully written, great characters, utterly absorbing and compelling reading!
Connie is feeling lost after the death of her beloved mother, losing her job, her children spreading their wings in the world and her husband leaving for an older woman…..
Lismay and Piers are now in their seventies and are beginning to find running their dream home and Chateau in Provence too hard to keep up, Lismay asks her goddaughter Connie if she can help, which is actually a huge blessing for them both!
New beginnings, overcoming obstacles, kindness and generosity! The story entwines and weaves across the years just brilliant!
Thank you NetGalley and Orion books for the chance to read early. An easy 5 stars but should be 10! A truly first class story.

After her losing her job and her husband leaving her for an older woman, Connie is left wondering what to do with her life. She then gets a call from her godmother asking for help running their chateau business in France while her husband has a much needed hip replacement.
Chateau Villette is the main character throughout this whole story which covers Lismay and Piers discovering and renovating it in the 1980s and Connie bringing it back to life 40 years later.
Brilliant characters, descriptions and story from Veronica Henry. You really feel immersed in the French way of life.
Of course being in the romance genre there is a handsome Frenchman who Connie remembers from her time visiting during her youth however the biggest love story is between Chateau Villette and her residents over the years.

With thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the arc in exchange for an honest review.

A Veronica Henry book will guarantee you two things - gorgeous writing and some gorgeous food and this book does not disappoint! I loved this novel about the rum down chateau in Provence and Connie, who has been tasked with saving it from ruin.

The perfect setting for the perfect book about second chances - a definite 5 stars from me.

Connie's husband has run off with an older woman. The magazine she ran went bust and now she has to sell the house.
Lismay and Piers bought a chateau in France back in 1985, and Lismay put her heart and soul into the renovations. But now, in the present day, it's crumbling and needs some love.
Piers needs to return to London for a hip operation, so Lismay asks her goddaughter Connie if she would look after the Chateau.
As with all Veronica's stories, there is such warmth from her characters. You can't help but be drawn in and wishing you were there.
The descriptions of the towns in France sound wonderful, and it's hard not to want to fly out immediately and sample all that it has to offer.
This is told in two timelines. Connie now, although she does a lot of reminiscing from her teenage years spent in France. And Lismay in 1985.
Beautifully written as always, Veronica never disappoints.
Thanks to Netgalley and Orion Publishing for the ARC in return for an honest review.

Such an amazing book
Connie's romance with the chateau and the way it comes back into her life just when she needs it is beautiful. I love the way that the chateau and friends come second to romance. Would love to go and stay !

One Night at the Chateau is Connie’s story. She has had the rug pulled from under her at the age of 50 & for a number of reasons, is at a crossroads in her life. Luckily, her godmother needs help in Provence at her beautiful (but run down) chateau & so the scene is set. This is an enjoyable read & although there is romance, I felt it took a bit of a back seat to let the whole story play out. The descriptions of the food were mouthwatering & I’m going to be digging out some French recipes whilst perusing breaks in France! Highly recommended.

The perfect book to counter our dreary winter skies. Veronica Henry's writing is balm for the soul. Who could resist those deep blue Provence skies? The amazing food, which she describes so well?
As always there's a sensitive and sympathetic story, this time centred on a 50 year old woman whose husband has gone off with another woman. "I had burned so bright, I thought sadly, but I'd been extinguished, stamped on until I barely showed a glimmer," thinks Connie.
Deciding at short notice to help her godparents out, running their luxury Chateau, Connie is immediately back in her mileu. I was cheering when she stood up to her husband, and when she dealt with a ghastly guest. I liked how the older folk, Lismay, her husband Piers and Connie's father, are treated with respect, rather than out of touch or decrepit, as usually happens in novels.
Henry is always up to date with contemporary trends which gives her books a delightful charm.
Heavenly!

What an absolutely beautiful story that I just never wanted to end.
Connie’s life is falling apart, her husband has left her and she is just totally overwhelmed until her godmother Lismay calls and asks for her help. The timing couldn’t be more perfect and she goes straight to Provence to stay in her godparents chateau while they come back to the UK temporarily.
The setting was absolutely stunning I could just imagine myself sitting outside with a glass of wine and some tasty French cheese.
The characters are beautifully written and I just felt like I knew them all so well. I loved how Connie and Lilou grew so much as characters as the story progressed.
It was nice that there was a romantic storyline but it didn’t take over the book as this was so much more than just a romance novel.
It was also nice to go back in time to when Lismay and Piers first bought the chateau and the reason behind this.
A 5 star read I would recommend to everyone and I’m hoping for a sequel to see what happens next for the Chateau Villette and Connie.

Three and a half stars.

Connie's husband has left her for an older woman. Her children have left home for university/work. Her job as a magazine editor ended when the magazine folded and she is totally overwhelmed by everything, struggling to get out of bed. Then her godmother Lismay calls from her chateau in Provence, France, she desperately needs Connie's help.

Lismay's husband needs a hip replacement but just before they are due to come to London for the operation he has sacked the chef, which Lismay thinks is a delaying tactic. She begs Connie to come out and run the chateau for a few months while they are in London. Connie spent many holidays at the chateau with her parents, and one idyllic summer working there, which culminated in a passionate night with the son of the owners of the vineyard next door. Although they both knew it would never be more than one night, Connie still recalls that night fondly and wonders 'what if?'.

When Connie arrives she discovers the once shabby-chic chateau is now just shabby. Everything is a bit grubby and/or broken. Online reviews are scathing, comparing it to Fawlty Towers.

Connie sweeps in a gets the chateau back up to standard, bringing the website up-to-date and generating new ideas for weekend events. Gradually, she begins to feel like her old self. Then she discovers that her one-night stand, Remy, has retired from international rugby and has returned to help run the family vineyard. Connie is surprised, flattered, and perhaps a little suspicious that Remy remembers her and seems keen to renew their acquaintance.

Interspersed with Connie's story is that of Lismay and her husband, and how they came to buy the chateau in the 1980s. Looking at the blurb for other books by Veronica Henry, this seems to be a common trait, weaving two linked stories thirty or so years apart.

Everything seems to be going well, Connie has got her mojo back, she's threatened her ex-husband with legal action unless he returns the money she inherited from her mother (and invested in the marital home) from the house proceeds before splitting the remainder equally, the chateau is thriving - and then she discovers that Remy has 'betrayed' her. I'll be brutally honest, I have no idea why Connie got so angry/upset and that probably knocked this down from a four star review.

Other than the conflict issue, I loved this, just like biting into a buttery French pastry. I mean who doesn't dream of escaping to Provence, swanning around a chateau, being able to cook fabulous meals at the drop of a hat and having a hunky French ex-rugby player with his own vineyard as a lover?

I received an ARC from the publisher via NetGalley.

This is a lovely read primarily about Connie who embraces the chance to help her godmother Lismay by looking after her French chateau and it’s b&b business for a short time but also about how Lismay found salvation in the chateau during a very difficult time. The characters in this are great with some very strong females at core, the storyline is simple but it really allows the characters to develop. This is a very uplifting read about moving on and second chances with some great relationships between the characters and a beautiful setting and some very tempting food too!

Thoroughly enjoyable - a beautiful multi-generational story. Restoring a chateau saves Lismay and Piers; a generation later, helping there also has a huge impact on their goddaughter's life (and again a generation later). It's about love, about friendship, about the bonds between generations, about being brave, about negotiating tricky waters once you hit middle age, about rediscovering yourself. The characterisation is fabulous, and it's lovely to see the characters blossoming. It's a big warm hug of a read - Veronica Henry at her best.

Thank you to the author, publisher and Netgalley for the ARC.
