I loved this book, I loved how Jake moved to a quiet village to live the quiet life after the failure of his marriage to be engrossed into solving a unsolved murder case, I loved the depth of the characters and seeing Jake evolve a relationship with Livia even with the trials & tribulations. I can’t wait to see what next is installed for Jake
This is the first book in a promising new cosy mystery series featuring ex police officer, Jake Jackson. The plot flows nicely at a steady pace and the characters are all interesting and different. As a debut novel, it shows great promise and I would definitely read a follow up. Thanks to Net Galley for my ARC.
A skilled journalist and enthusiastic connoisseur of detective novels turns his hand to crime fiction. Who could ask for a better curtain raiser? And this is a truly excellent debut.
The reader is submerged into a rich rural idyll that is written with a superb sense of place and peopled with characters who are impossible to resist. One can appreciate their subtleties, mourn their tragedies, and wonder at their mysteries.
The author excels at using tiny domestic details to enhance the implications of human relationships. He writes with authority and grace. I can't remember when I last read a debut novel as good as this...perhaps I never have.
