WoW! What an emotional read. There is so much going on in this book!
DCI Emma Gardner is stuggling with life at the moment due to her old friend Paul Riddick being in a coma with his life hanging in the balance, her love life being a confused mess, and her ex-con brother coming to stay. Everything seems to be coming at her all at once. Her brother's arrival can only spell one thing - trouble.
I won't spoil any of the plot for readers - especially ones like me who have read all the previous DCI Gardner books and so are invested in the charachters already. Let's just say that you are in for a rollercoaster of a ride!
I can't wait for the next one to see where the story takes us. A1

This fast paced and intriguing investigation kept me turning the pages, I read it in one day. Part of a series, I think the reader would benefit from having read the previous books. Unlike the earlier books, this one doesn’t have such a strong sense of place, and I missed that. The different stories are woven together well, but I found the ending stretched my credibility.

With Paul Riddick in intensive care, DCI Emma Gardner is understandably distracted.
When a young woman dies from a heart attack Emma feels something isn’t quite right. After meeting with the woman’s husband Emma is convinced. But what is it that is making Emma uncomfortable about the situation.
As Emma and her team begin to investigate, they begin to unravel a web of lies and deception far worse than they could have believed possible.
But Emma also has problems at home, her brother Jack is being released from prison and is going to live with Emma when he comes out. With Riddick and her brother distracting her Emma’s team are doing most of the work on the case, with devastating consequences for them all.
This fast paced, complex, thriller will have to gripped from the first page and you won’t want to put it down. 5 stars is not enough.

Number 6 in the Yorkshire Murders. This book was an emotional rollercoaster. Superbly written by Wes Markin, we have become like friends with the characters in this series. I was unprepared for the ending of this story. The story is heartwrenching and utterly draining. That said, it is an amazing read. I don't know if there will be another book in this series but I would hope we could meet these characters again in another story. With thanks to the author, Boldwood Books and Netgalley.

I have to read the next book, I can't wait, Wes Markin can not leave it like this, My emotions are all over the place after reading this. The Black Rock Killings has DCI Emma Gardner trying to juggle her job, her love life, her dying friend and ex partner and her psycho brother is comuing to stay , honestly the poor woman really needs a break. Having read the previous books it was good to delve a bit more into the wandering mind of Riddick but please hurry up with book 7 x

I think The Black Rock Killings is a good and enjoyable read. The authors writing is good and the plot line is certainly well thought out. Gardner and her team investigate a murder and their leads unearth years of lies and deceit. I liked most of the story threads and quite a few times wondered how everything would work out. I think the thread about Riddicks past could feature less without affecting the story or plot line - just my opinion though. The last quarter of this read is riveting and very thrilling and I really wanted to know what would come next. Overall I enjoyed this book just not as much as previous books in this series. If you're a fan of crime procedurals I'd recommend this and say read the books in ordercto know the characters and their backgrounds from the beginning.
3.5 stars

Prepare yourself for an emotional ride! What a fantastic piece of plotting by Wes Markin, my emotions are shredded into tiny pieces and I even shed a tear. This is brilliantly written, I quickly became immersed in the lives of the very believable characters, especially Emma as she investigates a complex case of murder. My nerves are well and truly shattered and I am exhausted after staying up late to finish this brilliant read. Fans are in for a treat with this latest installment featuring DCI Emma Gardner, although it can be read as a stand alone. I highly recommend the author to fans of crime fiction and thrillers. Thanks to Net Galley for my ARC.

I LOVE this series - 4*
I consider myself of Wes Markin: I really enjoy both this series (The Yorkshire Murders), DCI Michael Yorke and Jake Pettman series. If you've never picked up Wes Markin before, I would truly give him a chance. At first glance, the books seem like your generic police procedurals but they're more than that. There's complex relationships, conspiracies and horrific psychopaths.
I recommend reading the series in order but this book can be read without reading the previous ones. For me, I really enjoyed the plot and I love the potential for the next book. I love the characters and without spoilers, I found parts heartbreaking.
A great addition to the series.
Thank you, Wes Markin.

The Black Rock Killings by Wes Markin is a fabulous contemporary crime novel that had me glued from the start. It is the sixth book in The Yorkshire Murders series but can be read as a stand-alone.
I enjoyed catching up with familiar faces – both heroes and villains. I would recommend reading the previous books first as there is a crime thread running throughout the series as well as new crimes to solve.
We drop in on a familiar face recovering from major surgery in hospital. We ‘hear’ his thoughts while unconscious as he walks amid the ghosts of his life. Will he succumb to all that he has lost? Or is life worth a second shot?
The lead detective, though incredibly dedicated and good at her job, finds her personal life is complicated. Her emotions are torn as we watch her battle internally.
Beneath the surface bubbles a love that the reader has followed throughout the series. We have been aware that the two characters love each other, even though they have never admitted it, not even to themselves. Will they ever speak up and say the words ‘I love you’?
We see that our upbringings shape the adult we become – but what happens when a monster is made?
We are not responsible for the sins of our fathers – or are we?
Being in the wrong place at the wrong time produces disastrous results.
Wes Markin has once more constructed a fabulous, intricate and well thought out plotline with believable characters. I was thoroughly entertained by The Black Rock Killings.
I received a free copy via Rachel’s Random Resources for a blog tour. A favourable review was not required. All opinions are my own.

A calculated killer. A life hanging in the balance. A decision that changes everything... For the first time in her life, DCI Emma Gardner finds herself unable to concentrate on the job she loves. Her thoughts are now always with her old colleague Paul Riddick, who lies desperately ill in hospital a tortured man in life, now facing death! Good book! This book had good suspense, murder, mystery, intriguing, action, and some interesting twists and turns! The storyline was interesting! It wasn’t one of my top favorites but still a good read! Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for sharing this book with me!
