Thank you so much to Boldwood Books for the e-arc of this book.
What a rollercoaster! The beginning is a little slow, but you certainly don't see the plot twist coming?!? From the second part of the book onwards the excitement ramps up with an introduction to a second POV - I just couldn't put it down.
Getting married is a happy celebration, … or is it? 👀
Do you ever truly know who it is you’re marrying? I guess we’ll find out…

* I would definitely check the trigger warnings before reading as a few sensitive topics are mentioned throughout.

The Last Mrs Sinclair by T.J. Emerson

This book is a psychological thriller packed with secrets, deception, and a family that’s not as perfect as they seem. Leah thinks she’s found her dream life with wealthy widower Miles Sinclair, but when she moves into his chateau, she starts to uncover dark truths about his past—and his last wife’s mysterious death.

The first half of this book felt a bit slow and familiar, but the second half flew by with all the twists and turns! I loved the drama and the multiple POVs—it gave us glimpses into every character’s mind, even though none of them were particularly likable (but that just made it more interesting!). The title reminds me of The Last Mrs. Parrish, but the storyline takes a different turn. If you love messy, untrustworthy characters and slow-burning suspense that explodes by the end, this one’s for you!

Leah Williams knows exactly what she wants from life – comfort, luxury and security. Then she meets Miles Sinclair. After the death of his wife last year, Miles is ready to start living his life again, and Leah knows just how to help him… what could be so wrong with that? Leah starts to question things when Miles’ cousin, Vivienne, steps in. What really happened to Miles’ wife? Is Leah in danger?
I loved this book! I never knew who was playing who until the very end. Just when I thought I figured out part of the plot something would change. What an ending! I definitely recommend this book. Five stars!

Did not see that twist coming.

When I say the twists in this book were some of the most unexpected I’ve read in a long time….wow! I legitimately gasped out loud several times while reading this. They just kept coming after the first big twist. I really enjoyed the writing style and character development or unraveling here. This is a must read for fans of psychological thrillers, suspense, and even dark romance. I really enjoyed reading this and will definitely be adding anything else by Emerson to my must read list.

Thank you to Netgalley and Boldwood Books for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Leah Williams wants fame and fortune. Nothing more and she will do anything to get it. (Except for date a married man) when she meets Miles (a year after his wife died falling from a roof at a chateau) she has it all or does she. She will pretend in order to turn her life from rags to riches. When Miles invites her on vacation to his Chateau. The secrets start unfolding and soon she finds out the real reason she is there. Vivianne Mile's cousin might have other plans for the golddigger Leah.
Things aren't always as they seem.
I didn't particularly like Leah or Miles. But, I loved Jacques and Estelle. The book was good, mysterious, and a little different which doesn't make for a bad read.

Sex, money, betrayal? What more could you ask for in a book. Vivianne and Miles’ characters were awful but thats probably the point 🤣 loved Leah’s redemption ending though. Definitely keeps you up at night to see how it ends!

Thank you NetGalley for the opportunity to preview this book!

I received this book from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. The Last Mrs Sinclair started off reminding me of one of my favourite classics "Rebecca" by Daphne du Maurier. Leah arrived at gorgeous chalet with a wealthy widower hoping to replace the late Mrs. Sinclair. She started uncovering the truth about the last Mrs. Sinclair' tragic death, is her own life in danger? Who is the cat, and who is the mouse in this chilling, deceptive game?

The Last Mrs. Sinclair by T.J. Emerson is a gripping psychological thriller that expertly weaves secrets, deception, and shifting identities into a tense, slow-burning mystery. From the very first chapter, the novel establishes an unsettling atmosphere, keeping readers on edge as the protagonist navigates a world filled with manipulation and hidden truths. Emerson’s writing is sharp and immersive, making it easy to get lost in the dark twists of the story.

The characters are layered and intriguing, particularly the protagonist, whose past and present collide in unexpected ways. As the mystery unfolds, Emerson skillfully unravels the psychological complexity of relationships, power dynamics, and the lengths people will go to protect themselves. While some twists are predictable, the strength of the character development and the steady build-up of tension keep the story engaging.

Though the pacing slows at times, the novel delivers a satisfying and thought-provoking conclusion that ties the threads together well. The Last Mrs. Sinclair is a compelling, atmospheric thriller that keeps you turning pages until the very end. A strong 4-star read—perfect for fans of domestic suspense with a psychological edge.

Leah's mission is clear ~ secure a life of luxury and financial stability by finding the perfect husband. She believes she's found her match in Miles, a charming widower significantly older than her. Despite their age difference, Leah is drawn to Miles' potential to provide the life she desires.

When she goes on a vacation with him to visit his home in the countryside, she is shocked when he asks her to marry him. It seems sudden but she was not going to pass up the opportunity. At the chateau, Leah meets Vivienne, Miles' cousin, who he said is more like a sister to him. Right away she gets bad vibes from Vivienne and Vivienne seems to always bring up Miles' deceased wife. After meeting his former housekeeper and storekeepers in town, she starts to question how his wife really died. They say it was an accident but not everyone agrees.

Overall, this is a solid read, flows great, fantastic character development. I didn't necessarily like the characters but was still invested in how this story was playing out. There are a lot of great twists and revelations. While some I suspected, some had me jaw dropped. It's perfect for devouring in one sitting – as I did on a recent plane ride!

I recently had the opportunity to read an ARC of “The Last Mrs. Sinclair” by TJ Emerson, and it was an absolutely riveting experience. Emerson has crafted a gripping and emotionally charged story that kept me hooked from beginning to end.

The novel follows the story of Claire, a woman who discovers shocking secrets about her husband’s past after his sudden and mysterious death. As she delves deeper into his life, she uncovers a web of lies, betrayal, and danger that threatens to unravel everything she thought she knew. With the help of a determined journalist, Claire must navigate a treacherous path to uncover the truth and protect her family.

Emerson’s writing is both elegant and intense, drawing the reader into the world of the characters and making every moment feel vivid and real. The characters are richly developed, each with their own unique personalities and hidden depths that add layers of complexity to the story.

One of the standout features of this book is Emerson’s ability to blend suspense with emotional depth. The plot twists are expertly crafted, and the pacing is perfect, ensuring that there is never a dull moment. The themes of love, betrayal, and the search for truth are explored with nuance and sensitivity, adding layers of meaning to the story.

“The Last Mrs. Sinclair” is a masterful thriller that will keep you on the edge of your seat from start to finish. TJ Emerson has once again proven themselves to be a brilliant storyteller, and I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves a good mystery with heart. I can’t wait to see what they write next!

Thank you Boldwood Books and NetGalley for an early copy of The Last Mrs. Sinclair. I debated reading this one but in the end I am glad I did. It was a very fast moving book even though the characters were intensely flawed. Way toooo much sex scenes, not necessary. I didn’t like any of the characters. There was a twist towards the end that got me. Knowledge is Power.

Really enjoyed this. I liked how it was from different perspectives too. There are some good twists along the way and even if you question her motives, you cannot help rooting for our heroine!

This was fantastic. I loved it thanks to the writing, plot, characters, and the setting of London and the French countryside.

Leah knows she wants financial stability, and when she meets Miles, he fits her criteria. He's smart and wealthy. Finally, an end in sight to her boring job and crappy apartment!

Leah and Miles begin dating, and she's swept into a whirlwind of first-class living. When Miles brings her to his chateau, she meets his creepy cousin Vivienne, who seems to instantly dislike her. Vivienne is cold towards Leah and she assumes it's because Viv and Mile's first wife were close. There are definitely some secrets in the walls of this old chateau...

Through both Leah's and Vivienne's POV, we learn more about both women and some insight into the accidental (?) death of Miles's first wife Riley.

I loved how everything unfolded and kept me guessing. As soon as I finished this, I immediately downloaded other books by this author.

SO GOOD.

Twenty-four-year-old Leah Rose Williams is beautiful and she knows it. Stuck in a boring job, while living in a cramped apartment, she focuses on attracting rich, older men, hoping that a relationship will be her ticket to a better life. She has just dumped Nick, a married man she had been seeing, after he suggested going serious with the relationship.

Leah’s mother has taught her to believe that “All relationships are based on power, not love.” That she must “Step up and claim your power and, once you’ve got it, never ever give it away.” That “You are the prize, Leah. Always remember that.”

In just six weeks, Leah gets into a relationship with Miles Sinclair, 30 years her senior, who whisks her off to his family home in Chateau Clairvallon in France for a short vacation, and then proposes to her there. Soon he fixes up the wedding day in August.

Leah believes that finally she will have the life she was born to. The life she lost after her dad squandered her mom’s inheritance and deserted them.
Leah is thrilled beyond measure.

Though she does not love Miles, she is looking forward to the wealth that will soon be hers. For the sake of the wealth, she puts up with Miles’ age and the fact that he is still grieving the loss of his wife, Riley, who fell down to her death from the roof of Chateau Clairvallon.

At the chateau, Leah meets Miles’ cousin, Vivienne, who is mourning the death of her husband, Dom. Vivienne is now acting as Miles’ housekeeper at the chateau.

Excited about her turn of fortune, Leah prepares for her new life. But she cannot shake away the shadow of what happened to Riley? Was her death an accident or was it murder? And if it was murder, as the rumours in the village say, is she in danger too?

The book reminded me of Rebecca with Chateau Clairvallon being Manderley. At first I thought it was a retelling of Rebecca, but while the basic premise is similar, this one is different. The book is written in four parts, in the present tense PoV of Leah and Vivienne. It starts in May of an unnamed year, then continues up to July in two parts. The third and fourth parts pick up the story from August until the end.

The ‘last’ Mrs Sinclair has dual connotations, and the narrative does a good job of keeping us hooked on the stories of both Mrs Sinclairs.

The Prologue and the Epilogue were both done very well; the former grabbed my attention and pulled me into the story. While the book began on an exciting note, the middle, an extended section, lost steam, dragging the pace.

The chapters are dated only by month. It would have been better to date them too, so we would have some kind of countdown to the wedding, which is a critical point in the story.

The plot perked up at the 81% mark and then things began to happen in rapid succession. The final third was a huge improvement on the middle.

I didn’t like Leah, nor any of the characters. But they were real and relatable. In the end, though, I did feel a sense of pity for one of the characters.

There are themes like love, sex, incest, greed, wealth and power addressed in the book. There are some overly explicit sex scenes in the story, making this book unsuitable for younger readers.

We don’t know the year in which the book is set, only the month. But it seems to be a contemporary time, given that people have mobile phones and Internet, so Leah’s references (twice) to “freshening up between my legs”, instead of showering, sound weird, gross and unnecessary.

There are lots of proofing errors. Vivienne is referred to as Miles’ mother in one sentence.
A good thriller in spite of the issues.
My rating is 3 and a half.

There are several twists in this book- and it, overall, was not what I expected. There are some uncomfortable themes in this book.

This book definitely has some Rebecca elements, which I loved. Leah is a gold digger with a heart of gold. These types of characters can sometimes come off as vapid and stupid but she’s witty and smart. You cannot help but cheer for her.

I also loved the way the author described this creepy house.

Thanks for the advance review copy.

The Last Mrs Sinclair was a wonderfully sinful psychological thriller about a woman Leah Williams that wants the finer things in life. She meets Miles Sinclair and older widower whom has the means to make her life easy. He takes her to his chateau and she learns about the mystery surrounding his first wife's death.
This was the first book I read by T. J. Emerson and it won't be my last. Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this advanced readers copy.
