Aimed at a young YA audience, this book deals with four house cats and their adventures fighting evil, casting spells, building bonds of friendship, and charming humans into giving them table scraps. It’s cute, and there’s a lot of effort put into making their world and white it reminds me a lot of the Warrior series with how it treats cats as cats, not just people in furry suits, it also reads like a D&D adventure with evil spiders to defeat and coyotes to conquer. The characters lack a bit of subtlety and nuance but, again, this is aimed at younger readers who will, I think, have a lot of fun with Shaman, his fellow cats, and the story.
This was a pleasant read, and the writing and pacing were solid. Thank you to Net Galley and the publisher for an ARC.

5/5 stars for a young audience
2.5-3/5 stars for me!
I would love to recommend this to parents of my students. They aren’t at the reading level for it yet, but it’s one of those books that seem just right for a younger audience to be read. It reminds me of reading and being read the warrior cats series. For myself, I didn’t enjoy it too much early on. Once it got further I loved it more and more, and I would definitely like to see where this cute series may go.
