Thank you BooksGoSocial for this arc.

I've loved three of Forde's previous books and hoped for another one with this book. The blurb certainly is interesting but the disturbing emotional, physical, sexual, abuse and threatened child and animal abuse did me in. Worst of all is that the FMC goes through all this, or the memory of this, and doesn't seem that much improved at the end of the book. I honestly regret reading this book no matter how well written is it. If I publish a review of this book, I doubt I'd be able to sell it to readers.

The author generates a raw and emotional main character in Catherine Devine who, following the extraordinary save of a young girl, begins to question her ability to have moved that fast and effectively. Cate begins to reflect on obscure memories in her life.

In the examination of her history, Cate comes across her old paintings, something she’d loved doing years ago. There is one very unusual, ugly, but powerful painting she comes across that stirs strong emotions and she realizes that is the direction she must investigate.

Yikes! The storyline turns dark, a startling surprise for me. Definitely caught off-guard, the plot is even more compelling, you’ll have to follow to the denouement.

It’s an intelligent and sensitive writing style that pulls in the reader. The themes examine the loss of familial trust, sexual deviation, paranormal and kinesis abilities, along with Greek mythology.

The author is a powerful storyteller. This is one of those stories that is laid out carefully, quietly, and then bestows a mystical “wow” factor at the end when the readers’ mind catches up. 4.5 stars

I enjoyed this book, it was quite unique. I liked the idea of the psychokinesis included in the story and I loved the wolfhound, Hecuba. I will definitely be looking to read more books by this author.
Thank you to Netgalley and the author for the opportunity to read and review this book.
