I just wanted more from this - I felt like it was all just a little bit...vague? And I admit to having concerns about the whole white person in Africa thing that weren't entirely unfounded. Not for me I'm afraid.

There's a lot of leaving the reader in the dark. Pilgrim is such an obscure character and Martin is only slightly less opaque. I was hesitant going in, ready to critique the white woman encounters Africa/white expatriates in Africa trope but Finn handles it far better than my low expectations and convinced me to set aside my reservations. I liked the open ending which suits the somewhat meandering plot.
