Great instalment for the Dover Cafe Series by Ginny Bell. Having binged the other books in the series I feel I’ve been waiting for ages to catch up with the Castles and their local community. As always there is drama, disputes and emotional outbursts set against the backdrop of WW2. The shooting of beloved Gladys shocked everyone to the core, now summons have been received for the trial but than in itself causes more heartache and pain for Nellie and her family, this time though it looks like the damage may be permanent.
With some heartfelt, happier moments amongst the disaster and drama; we are again enthralled by every twist and turn. I’ll look forward to the next visit and seeing what more can happen to the Castles and Dover

This is book five in one of my personal favourite sagas. I love the emotions these books make you feel and this one was no different. The whole book is beautifully written, the world building and character personalities are skillfully done. Loved this!
📚I was able to read an advanced copy of title thanks to NetGalley, Ginny Bell and Bonnier Books UK | 📚

Well, was this book worth the wait! It’s a lesson on why you shouldn’t keep secrets from loved ones, no matter how well meant. The Castle family don’t have their troubles to seek, broken family relationships. When some of them are called to give evidence, the worry is who else has been called and at what price!
Meanwhile Bert has been slowly recovering in hospital after getting injured while in battle, during his recovery he has become friends with Dot who has helped him through his nightmares of watching his fellow soldiers killed beside him. Dot isn’t his usual type of woman so he feels he can be himself, or can he?
One thing some of them have in common is that they are guilty of burying their heads in the sand.
I loved this book, favourite character was Dot for her caring, easygoing manner. Least favourite was Vi for being self centred & thoughtless. Funniest was Cissy’s name for Jeremy. Saddest part was it ended.

What a lovely story. This was such a great and interesting read. I love these books are it brings that era to life . Nurses worked so hard then and seemed to have tome for their patients. My thanks to netgalley and the publishers for giving me the opportunity to read this book in return for an honest review.

Brilliant as usual! We join the Castles as they receive this summons to court following the shooting of their beloved Gladys.
Marianne is heavily pregnant, Edie is pregnant, Rodney is his usual brooding self, Bert is rediscovering who he is and what’s important and we hear a bit from Lily. It’s never a dull moment with this family!
I love how the story weaves through from book one up until this most recent book, I think I say this every time…. I adore this series as someone who is Dover born & bred!
I really hope there’ will be a book 6.

Good to be back with the Castles in the cafe. A great read catching up with all the goings on in Dover, The Trial sets everyone on edge amongst bombs, babies and love. A fantastic series with lovable characters, can't wait for more.

Great to be back at the Dover Cafe. The war still rages on but the family is at war with each other. The trail of the dumped girlfriend of Bert is coming up and the whole family is distraught and fighting among themselves. Can they pull together and tell the truth without any of them falling out permanently as the navigate their way through the trail of the woman who killed their beloved family friend whilst trying to kill Bert.
Loving this series and can’t wait for another instalment still so much unanswered.
