A Dirty Business / A Cruel Arrangement was my first introduction to the world of Mafia romance a couple of years ago and I absolutely ate them up. They were such a fun time and getting to the end of the second book was a really bittersweet moment as I had had enjoyed them so much but it also felt as though the story had concluded in a satisfying way. Needless to say, I was very intrigued and excited when I saw that we would be getting more books in the Kings of New York series; I was also a little bit nervous because where would the story go?

A Captive Situation follows Jake Worthing who we saw a little bit on the periphery of the story in books 1 and 2 as he navigates being made the head of his Mafia family after spending his adult life working as a cop and doing his best to avoid the dirtier side of his family. He is paired with Sawyer, a sweet woman who has come to New York after the man she was supposed to marry has left her for her best friend.

This is a book that doesn't take itself too seriously and made me laugh out loud at times due to the sheer ridiculousness of it and I was so on board for it every step of the way. If you enjoyed the slightly unhingedness that we got from Molly in her and Ashton's book, you will also really enjoy the joie de vive that Sawyer has at finding herself in the world of contracts on people's heads and feuding mafia families. We also get to see a fairly decent amount of Ashton with a hint of Trace and his family too.

I really appreciated the way that this book expanded out the world that had been established and played with some of the hints for the future that we had in the first two books. It also sets up at least one further book in this series which I am so incredibly fascinated to read and follow some more dangerous mafia characters. I am in particularly looking forward to more Blake 👀

The third book in the series was different than the other two. A little more rough on edges but a great story. It was funny with Sawyers crazy family in the mix. I can’t wait for the next book! Thank you NetGalley for the ARC

Too many things happened but also not enough. Felt like ages passed but actually only a few days had. It felt rushed but slow. It was enjoyable, entertaining and steaming but also predictable and a bit boring. I did really love the characters of Sawyer and Jake.

A Captive Situation by Tijan, published by Montlake is book 3 in the Kings of New York Series.
Every book is about another couple and can easily be read as a stand alone. And yes, there are a few cross overs.
Sawyer has had a rough time. Sorry not sorry no spoilers here. And then there's hot grumpy mcgrumperson, mrally fragwürdig Jake who doesn't give a d.
An highly entertaining high quality story from one of my few one click authors.

Thank you NetGalley for the eARC. I request4ed this book based on the author alone. I read a book of hers a few years ago. I stopped mid-way to Google what that book was called and realized I read book 1 and was in the middle of book 3. I instantly bought book 2 and kept on with 3. Tijan has such a great writing technique! I love any mafia romance mostly because it combines smut and the mob,. This one did that all and more! I smiled, i laughed, i giggled, i got hot and bothered! You need this book in your life!

A captive situation is a brand new book by Tijan. As someone who's enjoyed her previous works, i was anticipating this one. I had so much fun while reading this and it took me out of a reading slump. Tijan's writing is always perfect to me. It captures you from the get go and i couldn't stop reading this book. It was dark but delicious and i loved the plot, the romance and the dynamics we get to see. The main characters are perfect for each other and I loved their relationship dynamic but also them as individuals. I think it's better to go blind into this book and knowing as little as possible, so you can be surprised. Highly recommend this one. Another fantastic read by this author!

A Captive Situation is a fast-paced Mafia thriller filled with angst and intensity!

All Mafia leaders have a weakness if you know where to look...

The story is told from both Sawyer and Jake, the main characters. Jake is a lethal dose of danger and dominance - his character screamed 'Mafia'. It set the mood for A Captive Situation and had a great contrast between Sawyer. She was fierce, yet gentle in many ways. With these two parallels, the book had a balance of crazy action and high-strung sexual chemistry 🙈

The fast plot was highlighted with fight scenes, kidnappings and many spicy scenes! However, the composition of the writing lacked detail. With this neglect of world-building and character development the impact of the novel fell flat. A swift plot develops a weak romantic connection as well, which was rather disappointing...

Sawyer and Jake's story held my attention, though, and I found myself wanting more. I'd recommend A Captive Situation to those who love fast-paced, spicy reads 💘

This book had me on the fence the whole time. Sawyer was so wishy washy but she did have some humorous internal dialogue. She knew what Jake was capable of but every time she was shocked and ready to flee. I got extremely frustrated that she would not follow instructions to keep her and her family safe, even Jake. I get that she was kidnapped and this is a different world she has be thrust into but I would be following Jake's instructions! I instantly liked how Jake started to embrace his darker side and unleashed it on those including his family to protect those he loved. He wasn't with the bullcrap. Sawyer did manage to accomplish one mission which was to reunite her family. I don't know how I feel about that bombshell ending. Jake making an enemy out of Ashton. I get he was upset that he had no backup with Creighton but to hand it over and cause a war made me loose complete respect for Jake. Hate to be the bad guy here but I'm team Ashton and Trace. I hope they unleash holy hell on Jake and Creighton.

A little bit of crazy can go a long way - jilted, cheated on, betrayed, and a bit unbalanced - of course that just leads to kidnapping to escape a mob hit! The whacky family that seems to show up and obsession lurking everywhere. Action, suspense and a good amount of simmer to boiling keep everything interesting.

I needed a palate cleansing on my reading of a different genre and this delivered. To me this was a fun, easy read, that explored two characters that were both dealing with past conflicts that had scarred them.

Sawyer went to be a tourist in NYC after being cheated and dumped by her ex-fiance. Instead of the normal things to do on her tourist checklist, she ended up in with a stranger who kidnapped her for her own good.

Jake a morally gray, grumpy ex-cop with ties to the mafia, is dealing with greif and guilt ends up kidnapping Sawyer to help keep her safe.

Their attraction was instant, Sawyer had a bit of sass, to help even out some of Jake's grumpiness and I enjoyed their banter. The story moved along at a decent pace.

This is book 3 in a series, but it can be read as a stand alone. There are some other characters at play from previous books, but I hadn't read them and was not lost on the storyline.

I enjoyed this story and it does make me curious enough to go back and read the first 2 books.

Thank you NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book and review.

Tijan is one of my favorite authors, I've read lots of books written by this author for the suspense, the romance, and the angst you'll typically find in a Tijan book. However, I found this book didn't resonate with me., the writing wasn't up to the usual standard. The storyline was hard to follow and there were moments I felt like leaving the story.

I appreciate NetGalley and the publisher for providing an early copy.

Tijan is one of my guilty pleasure authors. Unfortunately this book did not do it for me. The writing wasn’t great and the story was difficult to follow and make sense of. I was disappointed. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the early read.

Tijan has once again crafted a gripping, heart-pounding romance with A Captive Situation. From the very first page, this book sweeps you into a whirlwind of emotions, suspense, and undeniable chemistry that keeps you hooked from start to finish.

The protagonist’s emotional journey is raw and real, caught between the heartache of a broken relationship and the desire to move forward. Enter Jake Worthing: brooding, grumpy, and impossibly hot. Their first meeting is charged with tension, as he’s a bit of a jerk but in that irresistibly magnetic way that makes their dynamic hard to ignore. There’s instant chemistry, though it's complicated by their witty, bantering exchanges.

Things take a serious turn when she finds herself in a deadly situation and stuck with Jake—who she has no choice but to trust. The tension between them builds as danger closes in, and what starts as a reluctant pairing soon becomes a combustible mix of passion and peril. The stakes are high, and Tijan’s mastery at weaving suspense into the romance is on full display.

The mafia’s looming presence adds a thrilling edge to the story, but at its heart, A Captive Situation is about healing and self-discovery. As both characters are forced to confront their pasts, you get a raw, emotional look at their vulnerabilities and growth. The slow-burn romance against this backdrop of danger keeps you on the edge of your seat, eager to see how it all unfolds.

Tijan’s writing is as compelling as ever—vivid, intense, and impossible to put down. She effortlessly captures the complexities of her characters, making them feel real and relatable, even amid the chaos they face. The pacing is spot-on, keeping you engaged while allowing for emotional depth and character development.

A Captive Situation is a perfect blend of romance, suspense, and emotional depth. If you're a fan of intense, steamy reads with high stakes and unforgettable characters, this one is an absolute must-read!

This was so silly and easy to read. Sawyer needs therapy for her past and really needs to contemplate her life decisions. Her family seems absolutely nuts and Jake is so morally grey. Don’t think about this book too much and you will enjoy it. Thanks NetGalley for letting me read and review.
