This is a great book for kids to learn about endangered species and conservation. There are many teaching moments that can be used as a full lesson plan for academics. I love the pictures and enjoyed the story. As Casper finds himself estranged from his forever family, he engages in a journey in Africa and makes many new friends.
I will read this to my speech kids and plan a lesson on endangered species and how to save them

THE INCREDIBLE ADVENTURES OF CASPER THE CAT WHO GOT LOST IN AFRICA is the first in a planned series of books by Jennifer Ussi targeted to children aged five to eight - all built around the adventures of a sassy cat. This one is a short (56 pages), sweet chapter book with enchanting illustrations by Lekshmi Bose.

Casper is a sheltered city pet who winds up getting lost somewhere in the African wilds, unable to find her way home. In her efforts to get help, she meets some unusual animals including the seldom-seen pangolin, a bat-eared fox, and a Grey go-away-bird. Although Casper is mostly interested in getting back home, she nevertheless winds up in an unexpected adventure involving poachers.

The plot is not completely resolved at the end but instead sets up the next book in this series involving Casper meeting elephants.

At the end of the book author Jennifer Ussi shares information about the animals Casper has met so readers learn a bit about their diet, habitat and role in the ecosystem. I found this to be a valuable addition because it embeds a strong environmental conservation message inside THE INCREDIBLE ADVENTURES OF CASPER THE CAT WHO GOT LOST IN AFRICA. Highly recommended.

Poor Casper the cat finds himself far from his family, and this is the first book of his adventures in getting back home. The illustrations were bright and fun and the text was informative. Pangolins are an endangered species and Casper comes upon a family and helps them, before they help him. Thanks to NetGalley for letting me read this.

The first book in a new children's series from award-winning filmmaker turned author Jennifer Ussi. Curious and sassy cat Casper accidentally finds herself lost and far from home - and in the African wilderness! On this first adventure, Casper encounters pangolins and other animal friends. Lovely illustrations, an engaging story line, and teachable moments re: conservation work and endangered species.
