Picking up where the first volume ended, The Providence of Fire struggles a little in the first half as a lot of information is given and characters are moved around the board to be in place for the second half. That second half is explosive, however, full of twists and surprises that leave the reader entirely unsure as to who to trust and where the story is going next. A good second volume that continues to place Staveley in the new fantasy firmament.
