Oh how I love a good historical fiction but this one just didn't hit the mark for me. I liked the idea and the story but found it a bit hard to follow, a bit disjointed at times. It was also a bit slow in the pacing and I kept waiting for it to pick up and draw me in. It is emotional, historical and the characters are for the most part likeable.
I'm glad I read it but it certainly wasn't a favourite of mine.
Thank you NetGalley and Joffe Books for giving me the opportunity to read and review this book.

I requested this book because the premise intrigued me. Unfortunately I thought the plot was slow moving and it never picked up.
Thank you to Netgalley and Deryn Lake for the review Copy. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Love Song of the Nightingale is a timeslip novel about Jenny Lind and Fryderyk Chopin.
Delia Paget is a wardrobe mistress for a west end modern opera. She plays bit parts in the produciton as well. When her boss shows her an unusual headress, Delia is drawn to it, As she researches it’s origins, she starts to have dreams and visions of the famous opera singer Jenny Lind. Delia follows Jenny;s life through her fame and her love affairs, with the love affair with Fryderyk Chopin taking center stage of the book. Delia has to find her own niche in the world of musicals that she loves.
This book was a bit hard to read at times as it seemed to jump around a bit but I enjoyed the history of Jenny and Frydeyk and Delia’s journey,

I recently finished reading Love Song of the Nightingale by Deryn Lake, and I found it to be an engaging read. The story follows Delia Paget, who lands her dream job as deputy wardrobe mistress in a touring theatre production. Her life takes an unexpected turn when she discovers an old Victorian headdress and begins to have visions of Jenny Lind, the legendary Swedish soprano known as the "Nightingale."
As Delia's dreams transport her into Jenny Lind's life, she learns about a passionate love affair with the composer Fryderyk Chopin. The narrative seamlessly blends the past and present, creating a rich tapestry of love, mystery, and historical intrigue. Delia's encounters with Justyn Krasinski, a charismatic Polish opera star, add another layer of romance and complexity to the story.
Lake's prose is vivid and immersive, bringing both the Victorian era and the modern-day theatre world to life. The characters are well-drawn, and their emotions and struggles are relatable. The time-slip aspect of the novel adds an intriguing dimension, making the unfolding romance and mystery all the more captivating.
Overall, Love Song of the Nightingale is a captivating historical romance with a time-slip twist.

The premise of this book was really good, but I found myself bored most of the time rather than invested in the story.

this was a brilliant hisotorical fiction novel. it felt so detailed and researched so i could imagine every bit of it.
i dont know much about the theatre and music world but in the way this was written it had me just as hooked as if i was. those who do love that world will adore this book though.
i really liked how it told two different stories in time. but also they felt so linked and right to be told alongside each other. i was never confused by each womens story and they both held my interest throughout. i also liked finding the difference and similarities in woman of the theatre world in both time spans.
the magical moments happen when Delia finds herself time slipping. Delia starts working in as a wardrobe assistant in a small touring company. when she comes across certain old items of clothing she feels a pull, a pull to the past. and so both the ladies stories is being told.
i really enjoyed this book. i didnt think i would due to not really knowing much about that time in history or that theatre world. but that wasnt an issue at all and the story was too good to miss.

Timeslip novel set in modern day theatre and operatic times in the past. Not one of my favourites, found it dragged a bit.

Deryn Lake's characters are drawn with a fondness that is both palpable and contagious. Her ability to conjure up a sense of entire lives unfolding before our eyes is always impressive and her characters are as enticingly modern as they are of the period.
A modern day seamstress witnesses extraordinary events from the past in the liminal spaces between sleep and wakefulness in the best time-slip romantic historical novel I have read since Daphne du Maurier's classic 'The House on the Strand'.
This is a blissful work of great intelligence by a hugely talented author who understands life.
Chopin, Mendelssohn and Hans Christian Andersen all vie unapologetically for the favours of the greatest soprano of her time - Jenny Lind - in an emotional rollercoaster full of personal triumphs and private tragedies.
This is a wonderfully agile, unconventional historical romance shot through with hauntingly beautiful prose and lit from within by a cast of unforgettable characters.
