I have had this book on my to-be-read pile for years and have only just got round to reading it having some time whilst I am relaxing on holiday. Why did I leave it so long? I have absolutely no idea!
This is a difficult book to review and, if you look at other reviews, you will understand why ... it seems to be a love it or hate it kind of book and I'm still not sure which camp I sit in! It's a bit slow and I found myself skimming sections, the characters aren't particularly likeable and it doesn't really have the 'oomph' that I like when reading but the ending was ok.
Is this a "sensational psychological thriller"? For me? Unfortunately not but that's just me and we all like different things so read other reviews and give it a go, you never know, you might love it.
My thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley for enabling me to read and share my thoughts of Second Life.

I read this at a time when I was thinking of joining an on-line dating site. It put me off - a good thing - and even now, quite a while after reading this story, it shunts me back to the shivers and dangers of online obsessions. An interesting concept - slow paced to begin with and populated by shady rather shallow, selfish characters that didn't quite ring true.

A fabulous, really enjoyable read.
I would recommend to family and friends.
Many thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for my ARC, in exchange for an honest review.

An interesting psychological thriller. Watson's novel has interesting characters, well-composed prose and an intriguing plot. It's not a fast-paced thriller, but it's a good one. (Perhaps it could have been tighter.) The main character is interesting, albeit not entirely likeable.

(I received a free copy of this book from Net Galley in exchange for an honest review.)
She loves her husband. She's obsessed by a stranger.
She's a devoted mother. She's prepared to lose everything.
She knows what she's doing. She's out of control.
She's innocent. She's guilty as sin.
She's living two lives. She might lose both...
This was not what I was expecting as a follow-up to Before I Go to Sleep. While the debut wasn't earth-shatteringly good, it was an accomplished first novel and one I thought the author could build on.
Instead, what we got was a character who seemed to be as thick as two bricks, making ridiculous decision after ridiculous decision, making her such an unlikeable character, and we all know that if the main character is unlikeable, then the story is pretty much gone. Especially if it is trying to be a thriller, cos I really didn't care what happened to Julia. No suspense, no build-up. Just didn't care...

I was very disappointed in this book after loving the author's highly original debut. It had none of the energy of his first book.

Hi, just clearing up my shelves. I started this one a few years ago and couldn't get into it so left it for a while, hoping to get back to it but I've never wanted to. Sorry :(
