Sleuthing sisters are back again. I enjoyed the first installment but wasn’t as crazy about this one. The murder of the beloved mayor is the theme of the holiday season. Venus and her twin, Sherrie (visiting from CA for the holidays) get a little help from Sherrie’s daughter this time. While I enjoyed their detecting process, I was a little less enamored with Venus’s jealousy. I felt it took away from the storyline and made her look insecure when she’s a small business mogul. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this advanced copy.

I had high hopes for this novel. The cover is cute and the blurb was promising. Unfortunately, I never connected with the story and felt stranded on the sidelines, unable to get invested by the stakes. But my experience remains a personal one, so give it a try and see for yourself. You might appreciate it more than me!

This was one of the best books I've read. I love the characters and how they were. The storyline is amazing. I love the mystery in this book. I definitely recommend this book.

This is being marketed as a cozy mystery. It is not a cozy mystery. I did[t make it through the first chapter. Deleted. Will not read.

I was looking forward to reading this book and catching up with Venus again, but something about this story was off putting.
I love a story set at the holidays and I thought that this would be a perfect weekend story. Unfortunately, the characters in this book were not portrayed in a good light, and Venus did not seem as confident as she was in her last book.
The story itself had good bones, but the childish behavior of grown adults definitely turned me off.

I can’t even begin to explain how much I hate being negative about a book. I am of the mindset that authors put their blood, sweat, and tears into their work and they don’t need my negativity. With that said, this book just wasn’t for me and I agreed to review it good, bad, or ugly.

I was excited about a cozy mystery but I absolutely did not find that cozy feeling with this book. The characters are very unlikeable and that made it really hard to keep reading. The relationships between all the characters reminded me of mean girls because they were more frenemies than anything. Everyone was only thinking about their own interests and behaved so catty and selfishly. Carole is supposed to be Venus’s bff and business partner but the whole time she was completely insensitive and selfish which was just disappointing. I expected funny not uncomfortable. I love flawed main characters but I need something in them to grab me and that just didn’t happen here.

The thing is just because I wasn’t into it doesn’t mean someone else won’t love it. The beauty of being individuals is that we all have completely different personalities and tastes and one woman’s least favorite book could be another’s favorite.
