Just as good as the first but just as gory can be read as a standalone. Looks like this author will only get better with blood, guts and gore being splayed all over the Highlands and detective Corstorphine on the get go to solving it all.

This is another very good read from the author, the second to feature DI Corstorphine but easily read as a stand alone. I like the Highland setting and the interesting characterisation. The pace is steady throughout, it keeps going with some twists along the way. I like the touches of humour and the sub plots, as well as the main plot. I think fans will enjoy this read and I would recommend it to readers of thrillers. Thanks to Net Galley for my ARC.

{ “The only one pressing charges around here is me. You shouldn't have turned around, should you?”
PC McAdam swept a practised eye over the two of them and decided nothing was going to kick off for a good while.
“Come on you, in the back of the patrol car.”
He glanced back towards PC Lamb and his incapacitated victim. “Keep an eye on him, Phil. I don't think he's going to make a run for it, not while he's still hardwired to a Taser.”
PC McAdam only walked a few steps towards the patrol car before his unrestrained laughter echoed down the street. PC Lamb looked around him. Curtains were being twitched open, and the more adventurous souls had appeared on doorsteps, their faces illuminated by the mobiles they held up like religious offerings. He stood up straighter and adjusted his cap, which had lost its regulation angle. This could make the front page!}
Detective Inspector Corstorphine is thrust into a case that seems to be tied up from the beginning, a mountain walker has died of natural causes, although the DI knows this man.. could this be clouding his judgement, or should he listen to the ramblings of a lady who has a known reputation for inviting mystery by dancing through the night?
A family grieving has secrets that have been locked up for too long. How long will it take for the Devil to take or make his cut? Who is the culprit, and what does a disabled girl and murdered boy have to do with a painting hiding the answers?
During thrillers it's so hard to come across or put across a comedic line because the story is meant to entice your mind and make you think one way and look another, however I found such an easy balance in this book. It was funny but heartwarming, very clever, twisty, and easily natural in the way the story progressed
The way Andrew James Greig was able to portray the beautiful Scottish scenery and able to invite the reader to the mountaintop where anything can happen. I loved DI Corstorphine straight away, with his easy manner and dedication to his job as well as Frankie, who I resonated with the most. It was a brilliant story from start to finish, and the element of mystery around the shadow they chased until the end was perfect.. With such a great ending!!
Love this book!
A huge thank you to Andrew James Greig, Storm Publishing, and Netgalley for the opportunity to read and relay my honest feedback. ::|

This is the second outing for Anrew James Greig's DI Corstophine. If you haven't read the first book it's a must read. This was such a great and an easy read. There were so many things going on you won’t want to put the book down. I love how descriptive the surroundings are and all the characters. The mystery kept me hooked but also had a smaller storyline with the characters.
When the body of whisky distillery owner Jack is found on a mountain in the Scottish Highlands, DI Corstophine is not surprised to learn that he died of a heart attack. DI Corstophine, a fellow mountain walker, knows the difficulty of that track. Jack certainly wasn’t exactly the best shape.
When Jack’s sister reports to police that her brother was poisoned. He told her from beyond the grave. DC Frankie McKenzie is hesitant to investigate because of his community status and wealth. DI Corstophine feels that a quick questioning of the wife will end any concerns and make the police look diligent.
As things unravel a huge mystery occurs when two more family members are attacked by what appears to be The Devil himself. It is now a race to see if the killer can be caught.
I would recommend this book. From the beginning to end you will not have an idea where the story line is going. They are so very nicely wrapped up in the end. I give this book 4.5 stars but since there isn’t a half star I am marking it up to a 5 star.
~Thank you to NetGallery and Story Publishing for the ARC.

This series is really one that I am excited about, This book kept the same key team of police officers and this time they have a series of incidents to connect and a murder to solve. There is just the right amount of blood and gore and there is an amazing imagination behind the various strands and occurrences. The takes - personal lives, crimes, police officers stories - are all woven together seamlessly. I was gripped from start to finish and went on the journey with the characters and had that little moment of sadness in my stomach when I got to the end. The sign of a great read.

This is the second book I've read by Andrew James Greig, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. We're back with the team of Corstorphine and Frankie, who are facing a suicide, an assault, drugs, a gang stealing catalytic converters, and a possible murder. Their small team is stretched to its limits. Will they solve them all? Check it out and find out!

This is the 2nd book by this author and it's very different from the 1st book. Starts with Jack father of one of the affluent family in a remote part of Scotland famed for it's beauty and hikes and walks, and he goes for a long hike but he has a heart attack on the return part of his journey, that's what was put on the death certificate. He has a sister a bit dippy by all accounts insist he has spoken to her from beyond the grave, and it's murder.
D I Corstorphine in charge of the murder squad takes another look at the forensic report and insist that was what he died at, and being an expert hiker he would not go out on a hike without the usual kit and his bag was examined, no water bottle was found but he could have drunk all the water and discarded the bottle.
There is also a son and daughter, the son works in the distillery with his father but also has a mini distillery in his garage which he experiments with flavoured gin and flavoured water, but has not made the big time yet.
The daughter is comatosed and stays in her room drugged with a day nurse and a night nurse always on site, basically the mother does not even bother to see her.
The wife thinks more of herself than the family.
There is also the devil who seems to have it in for this family dysfunctional they maybe but he starts with the sister, no more give aways as it is worth a read.
The author has done a very good job at producing 2 different style stories very different from each other but can be read as a standalone, but if I was have to choose which one was better I would say the 1st one has the edge over this one but a very gritty read.
Well done to this author will hope to read more of his works.

It was a exciting book full of action and pace I enjoyed its story it had a lot of twists I enjoyed dc Frankieit was a great book. my first time reading this author it had a action packed story and suspense
was excited and it was gripping when character got kidnapped
liked it
thank you net gallery

I thought this was an excellent book. It was a little slow for me to get into but once I did I was completely captivated. I enjoyed the characters and found the plot well thought out and well presented. The characters are well thought out and as a reader you become interested in each one. Highly recommend.

This is the fifth Andrew James Greig book I have read and enjoyed. Set in Scotland this is another rivetting read that kept me gripped from first page to last. Thanks to Storm Publishing and NetGalley for the chance to ARC this book.

I was pleasantly surprised by this book! I went into it completely blind, as I usually do. I had no idea that this was number two in a series, but I had no problems at all. It did fine as a stand alone! This book was fast paced and twisty and kept me second guessing everything. I had never read anything from this author, I have to say I'm impressed!

4.75 ⭐ rounded up.
Greig is the master of procedural small town thrillers. I am convinced he can do no wrong.
DI Corstorphine returns in yet another gripping procedural thriller. I am always amazed at how well these books are written. The imagery his words provides of Scotland, is nothing short of spectacular. Though I have never been there physically, Andrew has taken me there mentally.
This story held the same suspense and mystery as the first book. As each page turned, and each chapter was completed, more questions were raised than answers given. How are four separate incidents, all tied together and, what binds them. In seeking answers, I could not stop reading.
These characters have a way of making you feel included. It's not like you're reading about them, rather, it feels like you're right there alongside them. It doesn't feel like you're reading at all. It feels like your experiencing. The way the book is written, allows you into the mind of each character, helping you understand their actions and feelings. Some you love and others you love to hate. However, that just makes the book more fun.
As usual the killer reveal shocked me as I didn't see it coming at all. I love when the characters and I are in sync, not me waiting for them to catch up on something I figured out three chapters ago 😂. This is never an issue with Andrew as he always keeps me guessing and on my toes.
If you like small town thrillers, procedurals that you want to be immersed in. I highly recommend this series.
Thank you to Storm Publishing, Netgalley and, Andrew James Greig for my eARC of this book. All opinions are my own. The Devil's Cut is out May 1st, 2025.

DI Corstorphine is back!!
A body is found on top of a Scottish mountain top. Looks like a heart attack but his sister is convinced he’s been murdered. Strange things happen when a group of friends go to scatter his ashes. So much intrigue. It’s a must read. More please!

My second novel by Andrew James Greig although it could be read as a standalone. I went pretty much from his first Detective Corstorphine book The bone Clock straight into this one.
Set in the wild rugged highlands of Scotland where I am fortunate to live also appealed to me although I really hope I don’t get involve in any of the gruesome and grisly crimes and murders.
I highly recommend if you love a crime/police/murder you buy this book.
Thank you NetGalley, Storm Publishing & Andrew James Greig for an advanced copy in return for my honest opinion

This is the second outing for DI James Corstophine, and it’s every bit as gripping as the first. The story moves at a great pace with plenty of twists, turns, and surprises to keep you guessing. The multiple plot strands come together really well, making it a satisfying and clever read.
Greig has a great handle on the police procedural side of things, and the characters—especially Corstophine—feel real and relatable. It’s well-written, atmospheric, and thoroughly entertaining. I definitely enjoyed this more than the first one as it had a more complete ending. If you like twisty crime thrillers, this one’s definitely worth picking up.

Thank you to NetGalley and Storm Publishing for my copy of The Devil's Cut by Andrew James Greig.
Local brewery owner Jack McCoach died three weeks ago almost at the top of the mountain when his heart gave out.
It was ruled as natural causes and Detective Inspector Corstorphine had attended his wake, when Jack's sister came to see him. She is sure that Jack was murdered and that she will be next.
Is she right and why would anyone want them dead. A great story with twists and turns. Well worth the read.

DI Corstorphine and his offsider DS Frankie Mackenzie get caught up in a thoroughly maddening series of murders and attempted murder. The whole mess is sprinkled with poison, a coven, apparent madness, drug pushers, and even communication from the dead. The story is intense and a truly unputdownable read. I really want next in series!
I requested and received a temporary uncorrected digital copy from Storm Publishing via NetGalley.

DI James Considine begins the second instalment of this series a little worse for wear after overindulging at the wake of his friend Jack, owner of a whiskey distillery. DC Frankie McKenzie is preoccupied with a tragic suicide at the train station. Both incidents become more complex as the novel progresses. Was Jack’s death really a heart attack and could there be more to the young girl’s death than meets the eye? A quirky and twisty story, with a great sense of setting, The Devil’s Cut is an engaging police procedural about the dangers of secrets.
Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for the advance review copy.

The Devil's Cut is a fast paced read that captures your attention from the first to the last page.
It is the second book in the series but certainly can be read as a stand alone.
The body of the local distillery owner is found on the hiking trails and although it does not look suspicious, his sister disagrees and feels the entire family is in jeopardy.
The family is not only hiding secrets but also the youngest daughter is kept locked in her room
Cases are piling up for DI James and Corstorphine and his team and they are spread thin as they get rapildy hit with one case after another.
Someone is stalking the victim's son and what seems to be an unrelated case a girl jumps in front of a train.
The tension mounts with every chapter, the body count is rising
The mountains and locale are a character unto themselves.
I highly recommend The Devil's Cut but be aware it is hard to put down once you start the first chapter.
I cant wait for Book 3 in the series.
Thanks to Net Galley and Storm Publishing for the privilege of reading and reviewing The Devil's Cut.
