This was a great read that had me hooked. Serenity Ashworth or Wren to her friends has a very controlling father that thinks women don’t belong in the war. She receives a letter from Major Stapleton to a meeting at Harrods but is not sure about it so asks her twin brother Tommy who is going off to war what he thinks. Tommy is not really sure she should go and neither does his friend Captain Edward Lander. Wren still goes and decides she will take up the offer.Wren signs the Official Secret Act and is recruited into the Secret Resistance Army but is not allowed to tell anybody what she is doing not even discussing with her other recruits. Then Wren hears that Tommy is missing. Is he alive ,will Wren be able to pass all that is thrown at her? I would recommend this book .Thank you to Netgalley and Boldwood.

When Wren's brother joins up she wants to do her bit also for the war. The added bonus will be getting away from her father whose a bully and gives her a very hard time. Going on her initial training she meets lots of new girls, some who become friends and some not.
This story deals with a little known part of women's war history and I enjoyed learning about that.
Unfortunately the story itself did not grab me. The characters were flat and I disliked the main character which didn't help. There were far too many coincidences and this made the story unbelievable.
Still, if you like stories set in the war that are light and an easy read you'll enjoy this one. Just not for me I'm afraid.
Thanks to Boldwood Books and NetGalley for an early copy.

What a beautiful read. From the first page I was hooked. Great respect for the ladies of the second Wold War. True pioneers. More please!!

An interesting story set in the war. Wren's need to do something for the greater good gets her into a situation that sounds exciting albeit dangerous but exciting nonetheless.
I like Wren's tenacity and she and the resistance girls make a good team, even when they're not meant to be working together. I like that they're all different and there's focus on the different skills that they all have. It's a story that highlights the fact that women could be useful during the war.
The characters are quite fun and I liked the love/hate relationship that Wren and Lexi had. It made for a good read. I think this would make a great series and I'd like to know what happens next and whether they all make it to Trafalgar Square.

A novel about women in the resistance during WWII. I really enjoyed how these stories were author portrayed them. It had me up all night reading.

Hampered by a controlling father and overlooked by everyone she knows Serenity Ashworth (Wren to her friends) is determined to do her duty for the war effort and take advantage of the new opportunities for young women like her. So, when a mysterious letter from a Major Belinda Stapleton arrives, Wren is intrigued. Major Stapleton invites Wren to join her secret army - a select group of women operating undercover to combat enemy agents. It's an opportunity to play a critical role in the British Resistance. should Hitler ever invade British shores. Eager to sign up, Wren must first complete a tough training and , if she succeeds, will enter a world of secrets and spies where only people she can rely on are the other girls she's trained with.
This story is based on real events that took place during WWII. The story follows Wren and her journey throughout the war years and the secret missions she took part in. Some of the characters were based on real people. The book isn't all doom and gloom, in fact, it's quite lighthearted, and I found it a gripping read. Friendships are forged, romance develops for Wren, and the Resistance shows how women played a vital role in the war effort.

I would like to thank #NetGalley #BoldwoodBooks and the author #AliceGMay for my ARC of #TheResistanceGirls in exchange for an honest review.

The Resistance Girls is the story of Wren a young woman who wants to do her bit for the war. Wren is recruited with other women on a secret operation. The woman are all strong and courageous and I believe that they can do anything they set their minds on. I enjoy war stories because I always learn something new to take away and this book has quite a lot of research done and it is exciting. There is romance in the plot and friendship drama and plenty of breath holding danger.I love that it is the first book of a new saga and I am happily looking forward to reading the next book.

{ Something in her voice and the set of her jaw struck me as odd. She'd always been prickly but I'd never seen her so on edge. Her defiance held a touch of something I couldn't quite put my finger on.
https://www.goodreads.com/queenbee18“She's got a point,” I said, taking an apple and sinking my teeth into it. “We can always apologise if we're wrong.”
One by one, people reached for sustenance, drifting towards wooden chairs arranged around the room. We ate in silence.
The door opened again and Major Stapleton walked in. }
Wren was aching for excitement, she follow3d her twin Tommy, and the thought of him being away doing his bit for the country while she stayed behind typing letters, safe in the Ashford Estate, where nothing has or ever will happen, made the impending weeks ahead suffocating. Just because she is a woman does not mean she can not fight, protect, or outwit their enemy, too. And Major Stapleton obviously thought the same. Despite Edward and Tommy advising against her going to the secret meeting.. she had to, or she would always wonder, what if?
I'm in love with anything WW2 related. To think that our beloved grandparents and, in some cases, great grandparents, etc, did for us to have a safe and beautiful upbringing in peaceful and successful times.. I find it so truly amazing. They were like us today. Only untrained and blind to what was going on in the world. Only their wits and instinct to guide them, like this book showed..
We follow Wren as she is given the opportunity to be the heroine of her story. It was truly inspiring.
Some of the characters were based on real people!
It made me really swerve from one emotion to another, and I have to admit, I really was wrong about certain things! It was written with so much ease and personality, I loved Wren from the moment I met her, and I adored Edward, even when he was being so frustrating.
This is such a light hearted, (but at times) gripping, soulful read that it really made me sad coming to the end of the book. We owe our thanks and prayers to these unnamed heroes. Those who worked in the shadows and those who lost their lives. The research that must have gone into writing this book was so well done. You truly could feel the tension and sense the danger. I have a feeling a little of Wren's courage will stay with me now.
A huge thank you to Alice G. May, Boldwood Books, and Netgalley for the opportunity to read and relay my honest feedback. ::|

Really enojoyed reading this book. Loved how they all got together. Lots of laughs and tears got me through this book.

A good book that deals with women's involvement in ww2. It follows a young lady Wren who is involved in the war effort. The reader follows her journey from love to the issue or her brother being M.I.A. A good read with ups and downs tears and trauma and a few laughs along the way.
Thank you for advanced copy.

The Resistance Girls is the first book by Alice G. May that I have read. It won't be the last. Once I started reading it, I didn't want to put it down.
The story revolves around a group of women the army recruits to form a secret special resistance force. Ordinary women who nobody would expect to be anything other than normal housewives, etc. Women who were tasked with looking for anything happening out of the ordinary, seeking out possible spies for the Germans.
Focus is mainly on Serenity (Wren) Ashworth. After her brother is announced missing in action, she decides she needs to do something worthwhile for the war effort. An opportunity opens up to her and she finds herself being called to train for the secret resistance.
I enjoyed reading about the training she and her fellow possible recruits went through and then about Wren's mission.
The drama that unfolded was exciting to read, nefarious activities, friends possibly being spies, life and death scenarios, all had me reading as quickly as I could to discover the outcome.
Amongst all the drama, friendships are formed and a romance develops for Wren which was beautiful, It was also believable despite the circumstances of how they met and how their feelings grew.
This book was perfect, and I am very much looking forward to the next one in the series.

Firstly thank you Netgalley for this Arc
What a brilliant book loved how the girls all met up under different circumstances. Real page turner and loved how Lexi become a lovely person
Can’t wait to read more on this series

I can’t recommend this book enough. It kept me glued from the offset.
When Serenity Ashworth (Wren to friends) gets a mysterious letter from Major Stapleton to attend a meeting in Harrods she is captivated, firstly at the prospect of getting away from her father who, since her mother’s death, has made her feel incompetent and worthless, and secondly an opportunity to do some useful and exciting to help the war effort. The only spanner in this plans is that one her new colleagues, Lexi, seems to have taken a dislike to her, will this upset future plans!
Wren has always been of the mind that she didn’t need a man in her life, not wanting to be Controlled by one she is quite thrown when her brother Tommy introduces her to his old university chum Captain Edward Landers.
I found this to be a really exciting book, read in record time. There were some great characters, Wren, Lexi, Ed and Belinda (she kept popping up). The bonus was finding out there were to be more in this series,

Alice G May was a new author to me - but I really hope that there will be more to this series and we find out more about the adventures of The Resistance Girls. I can imagine that there is more to come about Connie and Lexi.
Their book is based around Wren (Serenity) and her twin brother Tommy. Wren is typical of young ladies of the time and feels that she could give more to the war effort. A meeting in Harrods gives her this chance.
This book is well written and obviously well researched. It is also a romance between Wren and her brothers best friend Edward who had been injured.
Unable to share her new role she works for and with Edward capturing spies and other brave deeds.
A thoroughly engaging read which I couldn’t put down at times - I wanted to know what might happen next.
I read quite a bit of WW2 historical fiction and this is definitely a different take on the brave work that specially chosen women do behind the scenes. It seems that being told never to tell means that their escapades are often not retold.
Can’t wait for the next instalment

Convincing characters in this harrowing romance set against the authorized resistance in England by women in the course of WW2. A rather light read that emphasized how foolish the misogyny of the time proved to be. A good afternoon's read.
I requested and received a temporary uncorrected eGalley from Boldwood Books courtesy of NetGalley.

Wren is the daughter of a wealthy British family during WWII. When her twin brother is MIA, she longs to contribute to the war effort. She's then recruited by a female major to join a secret army of women who will form part of the resistance should the Nazis invade and will also work to identify spies.
The first half of this book details Wren's recruitment and training and the second half tells the story of her mission, including her romantic interest in the commander of her facility and her brother's best friend.
As a historical story about a real unit during WWII, this is an interesting read, but as a novel I felt the book lacked an engaging plot.
I was provided an ARC by the publisher via NetGalley.

“The Resistance Girls” is a WWII historical fiction book by Alice G. May. This book was a quick rather easy read. Although it deals with serious topics, they lacked tension (which was fine). I usually prefer books with a bit more for me to learn and less with romance, but as this book was interesting and light, I felt it was an okay heartwarming read.

Wren is determined to do her bit for the war effort but her father thinks she’s just a useless girl so she settles into a dreary role as a secretary. But when a mysterious letter arrives for her from a woman major she’s excited to see what a new role would entail.
Major Stapleton wants her to train for a women’s secret army, she flourishes she is disappointed in her posting.
Then she finds out her twin brother is missing she is devastated it more determined to defeat the enemy anyway she can. When an opportunity arises to help Tommy she finds some unexpected allies to help her out.
Brilliant book and hoping to hear more of the resistance girls.

Enjoy this era! And once again I just Loved reading about it. I suppose all you need to know is that it’s a cracking action-packed story with a highly satisfactory ending – I really do recommend it.

WOW!!! This book has everything. I have heard much about the women trained to help fight the war. But to experience it with them was exhlirating. To see the sorts of training that might have occurred had me respecting them more and more. There was no one in the training more fascinating than Wren Ashworth.
She was raised in a Manor. When she joined the ATF she was sent back home to be a scretary after her father volunteered their home to the war effort. She wanted to do more. She needed to do more. A simple letter will change everything. Her training was intense but the import part she would play would be worth it. It was hard to believe when she was being sent back home as a secretary yet again.
This time will be different. She is now on the look out for traitors. She is listening for what should not be. She is looking for anything out of the ordinary. The intensity of the story increased with her discoveries. Solving mysteries, working to keep England safe made for a thrilling read. It just kept getting better. Wren Ashworth is someone that shows that women played an important in the war effort.
