A great read about an after school event that goes drastically wrong when one of the girls in the basketball coaches team goes missing from a locked school in the middle of the night. Coach Cass knows it’s not completely true that they were locked in as she deliberately left one of the doors open but as she tries to find Evie before the police come knocking will she get out of this with her freedom and can she trust anyone close to her as someone wants her sacked from her job and this has played into their hands. Secrets and lies from her past threaten everything but will she find the truth before it’s too late. A great page turner which would make a great tv drama. Don’t miss this one!

This was one I had high hopes on . I found it to be all over the place and just too unrealistic . The book had far too many characters and I didn’t enjoy this one at all but was too far in to quit it 🤪. I have read several by Miranda previously and would read her again , this was just a miss for me .

This thriller is an absolute page-turner, a must to include in your TBR. It's got me at the edge of my seat all way long. I couldn't believe the ending.

As a longtime fan of Miranda Smith, Did You See Evie? did not disappoint! The story follows Cass, a dedicated middle school girls' basketball coach who has just led her team to a district championship victory. To celebrate, the team holds a lock-in at school.

During the night, Evie tries to talk to Coach Cass about something important, but is interrupted—never getting the chance to share her secret. Then, Evie vanishes without a trace. As the search unfolds, Cass wrestles with a secret of her own—one that may or may not be connected to Evie’s disappearance. Consumed by guilt, she seeks answers from an old friend, Nadia, as well as the girls on the team, her co-workers, and the students’ parents.

This book was an absolute page-turner! With its gripping mystery and well-drawn characters, Did You See Evie? kept me hooked from start to finish. I highly recommend it!

I really enjoyed the twists and turns this book had. I had absolutely no idea what was going to happen, each time I was convinced I knew what had happened to Evie, the person I suspected would be revealed to not be involved!

I wasn’t the biggest lover of the characters, but then I’m not sure you were meant to feel the empathy towards any of them.

Good book

After the team she coaches wins the Championship,Cass and the team has a 'lock in' to celebrate, in the school gym.
One of the students disappears, and Cass is afraid that her past will catch up with her.

This is an intriguing novel. Cass has tried to turn her life around after having a troubled childhood.
She has lapses, like pocketing a phone that isn't hers, but on the whole, she is a caring and trustworthy person.
I certainly didn't like the mothers of the Manning basketball team, and that includes Evie's mother. She seemed uncaring and the others ... well, money doesn't buy you class or motherhood points.

Miranda Smith does a good job of developing her characters.
I just didn't agree with the 'preteen' describing the girls. They are 13-14 years old. Preteen is between the ages of 9-12. Once there is a 'teen' on the number, they are teenagers.

All in all, an engrossing read. I enjoyed the book thoroughly.

This was a page turner, and there were so many red herrings, so many layers of deception, that I truly had no idea who the culprit was or what their motive could be. Interspersed with the mystery was the age-old question: can you ever really escape your past? Can everything you worked so hard for be taken away in the blink of an eye? I was lucky to be granted an ARC of this book for an honest review.

I wasn’t sure what to expect from this thriller as I haven’t read any with similar storylines but wow, it really kept me intrigued the whole way through.
I read this book within 24 hours because I was desperate to know what had happened and who was involved.
There were some great twists and turns and I only loosely guessed at one of them so the book kept me on my toes the whole time.

The pacing was pretty steady, although the ending did feel a bit rushed. There was interesting background information for the main character, Coach Cass, which made me feel for her and really route for her despite some poor decisions.
It deals with the lasting impact that childhood trauma can have on a person and the way it affects their behaviours and motivations.

I really enjoyed this book and would recommend it.

📖 plot & pace: medium-paced but packed with twists! every chapter gave me a new reason to have my jaw on the floor. i never knew what to expect next, and honestly… i was suspicious of everyone.

👥 characters: so well-developed and relatable! Coach Cass and Evie were my favorites (of course haha) but nadia wasn’t far behind — and reynolds? loved him too! i found myself connecting with each of them in some way.

⚠️ content notes: there are brief mentions of child abuse and bullying, but nothing explicit or deeply detailed.

the only reason i didn’t go full 5 stars was due to a few punctuation/grammar hiccups. nothing major, but i had to reread a couple of lines thinking i missed something. honestly, it didn’t take away from the story — just a small detail.

overall, i loved this book and feel so honored to have received an arc. miranda smith has officially earned a spot on my favorite authors list!

A group of teenage girls form a close-knit team when it comes to basketball. At least that's how it seems to the outside world. But what really happens when they are not under supervision? Do they really accept Evie, the misfit, or do they behave a little (or even much) more sneaky behind the scenes?

So far everything has been hidden, but at a school sleepover everything escalates ...

The title says enough about the kind of story awaits you. Even before you open the book, you already know that you will probably experience tension, lies and mystery. And my hunch turned out to be completely correct.

There appear to be several people who prefer to keep hiding certain things and hope that the past remains exactly what it is, the past.

But should you be punished so many years later when it is clear that you are no longer that person? All you can do to emphasize that is to try to make sure you can solve the mystery. Who is on your side and who is best to avoid?

The writing is stylish and engrossing. The author finds a perfect balance between the tense dynamics of teenage friendships and a mystery that gets more complex on every page. I felt the tension and didn't have a clue what really happened until the final pages.

If thrillers are your thing, this book will keep you interested. The atmosphere was both terrifying and exciting, leaving a lasting impression even after the book was finished. 

Some people are like elephants. They don't forget anything and have no problem waiting for years to get revenge. 5 stars

Wonderful writing with well written characters.

This book was kind of sad. Evie is a loner and likes to self isolate. It can be hard to make friends and kids and teenagers can be so cruel. It is more drama than suspense.

Coach Cass and her assistant Joanna have just led their girls basketball team to the district championships when the book begins, and the entire school is celebrating. Manning Academy is an elite private school, and the parents want to do something for the girls to celebrate their achievement. The school decides the safest option is to have a lock-in for the team in the school’s gymnasium…but that safety is called into question when Cass wakes up in the morning and realizes her star player, Evie, has disappeared.

Cass grew up in Manning, but she came from a low-income, dysfunctional family and never thought she’d end up working at the private school in her town. Evie has a scholarship to the school, and the other girls know that she’s not “one of them”. She doesn’t have designer clothes, her mom is never around and the team celebrates her as a teammate, but there are some girls that don’t care for her as a friend. Cass has a special bond with her because of their backgrounds, and before the lock-in, Evie was upset and wanting to tell Cass something. Unfortunately there was an interruption, and Evie was gone before they got to finish that conversation.

After Evie has gone missing, the rest of the book is obviously about finding her. Several characters give us enough red herrings that the ending was a tossup; it really could have been anyone or anything, but I still ended up being surprised. In many ways this is a typical missing child/teen thriller that I’d put in the popcorn section, but it was a quick page turner and an entertaining read! Four stars.
