When I learned Jenny Proctor had a book in the Only Magic in the Building series, I knew I had to read it. Friends to lovers is one of my least favorite tropes, but Jenny Proctor does it so well—I just loved Sophie and Peter!

Sophie has a talent for growing plants and is responsible for the lovely rooftop garden at The Serendipity, but when it comes to love, her talent lies in picking the wrong guy. When a rare flower that only blooms in the presence of true love appears in the rooftop garden, she enlists her best friend, Peter, to help her use the flower to find her soulmate. What follows is a delightful and often hilarious journey as Sophie discovers that her soulmate has been there all along.

Men falling first is becoming one of my favorite things, and Peter fell hard for Sophie. I loved how the magic in the building caused problems so Peter had to crash at Sophie's while his apartment was rewired. I don't think she would've looked at him as more than a friend if it hadn't been for the forced proximity. How did she miss what a catch that man was for so long?

Peter is the perfect best friend—steady, supportive, and, as it turns out, maybe something more. The chemistry between Sophie and Peter is undeniable, and I was rooting for them from the beginning. He was patient while Sophie learned to trust her heart and believe in herself.

If you enjoy sweet, lighthearted romances with a sprinkle of magic, this is a must-read. It’s a feel-good story that will leave you smiling long after the final page. I received a copy from the publisher, Jenny Proctor Creative, via NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions in this review are my own.

This was a very beautiful love story. It’s got the friend to lovers trope which is one of my personal favourites. I loved the way the two characters learnt to overcome their inhibitions and embrace what was in front of them all this time. It was very well written with both main characters exuding green flag energy.

Peter is an absolute sweetheart and I love reading about stories where there’s a lot of respect and admiration that the main characters have for each other without unnecessary plots like betrayal, miscommunication or silly antics to incite jealousy. These two shared a beautiful friendship since childhood and it was so apparent in the story with the way they understood each other. The moments between the two as friends and as they got conflicted with their feelings for one another were very well written and I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Overall it just had a lot of positivity.

This makes me incredibly sad but at about 50% I just can’t use my time to keep going. I typically love. Jenny Proctor’s books but there is something about this one that is rubbing me the wrong way. I’m really really hoping that after a break for a while I may want to come back to try again!

As a huge Jenny Proctor fan, I was so excited to read this book! It did not disappoint and was so cute! Sophie and Peter's friendship is written so beautifully, and the way their relationship evolves is perfect. I can't wait to read the rest of the books the Only Magic in the Building series.

Thank you netgalley for and arc of Petals and Plot Twists by Jenny Proctor

Ahh, this was the cutest book. I wasn’t sure how I was going to like it because sometimes friends to lovers can be hard but I adored this story. Petals and Plot Twists is the third book in The Only Magic in the Building series.
I adored Sophie and Peter. They had such a sweet relationship and they really understood each other. I felt for Sophie as she tried to figure out her life and her hopes for the future. Peter was a sweetheart as he tried to figure out his own life while supporting Sophie. I like how they stood by each other and tried to help each other out.
The romance was sweet and fit them both. They were just friends but were both hoping for more. I felt like their interactions and feelings made sense especially as they were scared to lose the other person. There were times when Sophie frustrated me because I wanted her to see Peter, but I grew to understand her.
This was a fun book and I would totally recommend it! I am loving this series and I can’t wait to read the next book. Petals and Plot Twists is a closed door romantic comedy.
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from the publisher through Netgalley. All views expressed are only my honest opinion.

First of all I’d like to thank NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read and review this book before release!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

What a book.

Sophie and Peter have been best friends for years. However Peter has been hiding a secret from Sophie… he’s been in love with her for years and can’t bring himself to tell her. When green finger Sophie spots a blooming flower that she has never seen before she’s instantly curious. She finds out that the flower also holds a secret… the flower blooms for couples in love. Which is great, right?

With Sophie feeling like she is the problem in relationships, she decides to make a plan, to find her soulmate.

This book gave me all the cosy, cutesy vibes needed. Jenny Proctor is an amazing author. The book is written to absolute perfection. My kind of book.

Thank you NetGalley and publisher for this ARC publication for an honest review.

This series is a magical hit! Sweet, swoony sigh...This is book three and could be read as a stand-alone, but to have full appreciation of the characters (and the other books are totally worthwhile, too!) I suggest starting at the beginning.

One of my favorite tropes is friends to something more. Sophie and Peter are besties who the girl doesn't know how he truly feels about her! Sophie discovers a plant on her apartment rooftop that apparently blooms only for true love. Setting her on a mission to speed date her way to test the theory and find her love match. Which puts a damper on Peter finally getting the nerve to declare his love. Instead, he agrees to help her weed out the failed participants.

What a fun, sweet book as Sophie finally sees Peter in a different light. I loved the unveiling of their mutual feelings and them getting to the point of risking their friendship for something more. Predictably perfect with a satisfying, sweet happily ever after...Jenny Proctor has done it again!

Looking forward to the rest of this series!

Petals and Plot Twists is an utterly charming read—sweet, light, and filled with just the right amount of whimsy without veering into anything too strange. It’s the kind of book that feels like a warm cup of tea on a cozy afternoon, offering an easy escape into a well-crafted world.

One of the highlights for me was the slow build of chemistry between the main characters. Their connection grew naturally, making it all the more satisfying when they finally came together. Sophie’s personal growth was another beautiful aspect of the story—her journey toward self-awareness felt heartfelt and genuine.

If I had one small wish, it would be for just a bit more romance. After waiting so long for that moment, I wanted to linger in it a little longer. That said, I did appreciate that the book stayed sweet rather than overly spicy, keeping the tone perfectly in line with the overall feel of the story.

Overall, I’d definitely recommend Petals and Plot Twists to anyone looking for a delightful, easy read. It’s a lovely escape with engaging characters, a touch of whimsy, and a romance that feels well-earned.

Petals and Plot Twists by Jenny Proctor was such a delightful read! 🌸 Sophie’s journey to find love is filled with heart, humor, and a touch of magic, making it impossible not to root for her. The mystery flower that blooms only in the presence of true love is such a unique and charming twist! And I loved how Sophie’s best friend, Peter, was right there with her through it all, even helping her figure out if this flower could lead to her soulmate. 🌿

Their unexpected kiss was definitely one of those "oh my gosh, I didn’t see that coming" moments that really made me smile! 😍 I loved watching Sophie figure out that maybe love had been right in front of her all along, and the book had such a sweet, feel-good vibe throughout.

While I loved the whimsical elements and how Sophie had to decide whether to trust fate or take control of her own story, I did wish there was a bit more depth in their relationship development. But overall, it was a fun, lighthearted romance that kept me hooked from start to finish. Definitely recommend if you’re looking for a heartwarming, magical escape! ✨

When Sophie discovers a mysterious and magical flower growing in her rooftop garden at her apartment complex in Serendipity Springs, she develops a plot to finally find her soulmate. When a pair of lovers are within proximity of this flower, its petals open and it blooms, indicating a successful romantic relationship. After years of hesitancy and anxiety in the romance department, this flower finally provides some assurance for Sophie, who quickly convinces her best friend, Peter, to help her with her fool-proof plan to meet her soulmate by downloading a dating app and having each of her potential soulmates meet her on the rooftop before following through on their first date.

Peter is quick to agree to help Sophie with her plan, even though he has been harboring a secret love for Sophie since high school. In fact, all of Sophie and Peter's friends and family members can see the spark between the two of them... except for Sophie. When Peter is offered the job promotion of a lifetime, involving a multi-state move to the South, he begins to consider accepting the position when it begins to seem unlikely that he and Sophie will ever truly work out. However, Sophie has decided that she needs to get Peter onto the rooftop to see if the flower will bloom and open up when she and Peter are in its presence, finally allowing her heart to open up to the scary possibility of having feelings for Peter.

"Petals and Plot Twists" is Jenny Proctor's installation of "Only Magic in the Building" and is a sweet friends-to-lovers romance that provides an easy and enjoyable romantic read. I enjoyed the dual-POV between Sophie and Peter, as this is one of my favorite formats for romance novels. The book is slightly cheesy and I do wish there was a bit more "chemistry" between Sophie and Peter; however, overall, this was an enjoyable read that is perfect for when you want to pick up a book with a guaranteed happy ending and without a tumultuous or traumatic plot line leading up to the happily-ever-after! I also appreciated the character development demonstrated in Sophie throughout the book, such as Sophie realizing she had the power to change her career in order to truly do something she enjoyed and find happiness in; taking the time to question her childhood experiences to consider whether or not she wanted to continue to allow them to hold power over her; and generally choose herself and her own happiness rather than be held back by fear!

Thank you to NetGalley and Jenny Proctor Creative for providing a digital ARC copy of this book, which is available for purchase on March 19, 2025!

"Love isn't magic, it's an action."

This is my second Jenny Proctor book and, strangely enough, it's the second best friends-to-more book I have read from the author. Rom-coms by Jenny Proctor are so fun! I loved Sophie's bubbly, whimsical, incandescent personality and Peter's factual, considerate, protective aura. Their first person voices melded seamlessly and their friendship was absolutely delightful. The bit of magical realism with Peter's apartment scheming to bring them together and a love flower in the garden was really cute. Now I have to go read the other books in the series and can't wait for Peter's sister's story.

I received a complimentary copy courtesy of the publisher via NetGalley and was under no obligation to post a positive comment. All opinions are my own.

Welcome to the Serendipity, where people experience true love with a little whimsical help in various ways. In Petals and Plot Twists, Jenny Proctor shines as a clean rom com storyteller. Peter and Sophie captured my heart from the get-go. Best friends since high school these two have become inseparable in their adult life. Sophie has become determined to find her soul mate, using the assistance of a special flower that only blooms in the presence of true love. Peter, being a supportive best friend agrees to help, he just wishes she could see what has been in front of her all along. I love how Peter decides to woo Sophie and show her he’s more than what she’s always thought. He is so thoughtful, tender, and creative. I love how her energy and positivity balances his logical and straightforward manner. They really are perfect together. When Sophie starts to see this and doesn’t know what to do with these new thoughts and emotions, the chemistry amps up in sweet and funny ways. These two are so much fun and I thoroughly enjoyed their story.

I loved this addition to the Only Magic in the Building series! I loved Sophie and Peter so much!

Sophie's character was a little complicated (in a good way) due to the struggles from her past and that added to the storyline. Her best friend Peter is the best! He's sweet and always there as a listening ear for Sophie. But he's done just being a friend on the sideline! I loved him learning to step out of his comfort zone and work towards showing Sophie his love for her. *Happy Sigh*

Seriously soooo adorable! I loved watching Sophie's growth in her struggle to find love. So clever! And the best part, again, was Peter! I loved how he supported Sophie but he wasn't willing to let her think she had to settle for less than what was the best for her (pun not intended).

Just read it! Seriously!!!

Content: I would consider this a clean read. There are a couple spots where Sophie sees Peter without a shirt on after he's been on a run and she admires him. They share an apartment but nothing more than that. And some kisses.

Happy Reading!!!

This was a very cute and magical book! The miscommunication parts annoyed me to no end (just not my favorite thing in general) but aside from that, I loved this. This was a great springtime read with just the right amount of magic and romance.

Thank you to Net Galley and the author for giving me the opportunity to read and review this book! I loved this book so so much! This is the first book i’ve read by this author and I will definitely be reading more! I loved this story so much and I love the friends to lovers trope! Peter and Sophie were ADORABLE. This book is the 3rd book in the Only Magic In the Building Series. This book is about Sophie who lives in the Serendipity and works in the flower garden on the roof. A mystery flower comes up in her garden and it only blooms in the presence of true love. She uses her bestfriend Peter to help her use the flower to find true love.

The magic was strong in this book. I really liked that the love flower wasn't important to Peter and that he believed in his love. I loved the way he convinced Sophie to trust in her instincts, even if she thought that they were broken and misguided.

Even though Sophie doesn't come from a childhood where love was shown in the best way, I really liked her friendship with Peter from the start. It already showed that she was capable of having meaningful relationships, even if they start out in a platonic way. I just find it weird that at one point in high school, they both had a crush on one another and they both didn't notice. I think that if someone had a crush on me for several years, I would have figured it out if I had the same feelings for them at one point.

Unfortunately I was unable to finish this book.

It was hard to get invested with the characters and the plot was a little too shallow.
