This is my 1st book by Sarah Hanks and the 3rd book in the "Split-Time Sisters in Arms" series and it can be read as a stand alone book.
As the title reads, it is a dual timeline Christian based historical story with the 1st fascinating story at the start of Civil War, with Henrietta Frontenac signing up for the Confederate Army as a way to provide for her 5 younger sisters disguised as a man. The 2nd engaging story opens in present day with older sister Everly, a chiropractor and younger sister Ivy, who is planning her wedding and receives devastating news regarding her ability to have children.
Henrietta's story has intrigue, suspense, hardship, some non-graphic violence appropriate for war, and romance with the historical details and prose pulling you in to the "Henry's" challenges of being in a wartime position in disguise. Her faith journey moves from feeling abandoned by God to seeing Him in her life and that of her family.
Everly and Ivy both have past histories and trauma as siblings and individually which are brought to the forefront when Everly becomes a surrogate for her sister. The challenges with fear, anxiety, forgiveness and growing in faith, letting God heal and bring blessings in those areas of their lives was very relatable, emotionally and spiritually. During this journey is their discovery of Henrietta, weaving the stories together and inspiring them through the pregnancy and beyond.
If you are looking for an inspirational historical story filled with sisterhood, triumph over circumstances with growth of faith in Jesus, romance, danger, suspense and family, I highly recommend this book! I'm going to read the other 2 in the series due to this engaging, inspiring, thought provoking and well written story.

This is a new to me author and I enjoyed this book. I like to read books set during the Civil War and this one did not disappoint. I couldn’t put it down because I was wanting to see what happened next.

I was given a complimentary copy of this book from Netgalley and the publisher. All words are my own.

Thanks to Netgalley for an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest opinion. This was a new to me author and I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed it. The relationship between sisters is complex and this book explores that and how the love for each other compels them to go to any extreme to support and protect each other. I recommend reading this. I plan to read the other books in this series.
