I enjoyed this book. It was quick and easy thriller.
I loved the setting of the book.
The plot was well structured and well-written despite the many characters.
Characters were developed enough that you were able to connect and understand who they were and why they were where they were in present day.
Group of friends, someone's little sister disappears, everyone drifts apart, a true crime podcaster on a mission, who did it, estate only assessible by boat for a small window of time each day!
Check this is out if you like a nice quick thriller!

Between the Waves by Hilary Tailor is an emotional, atmospheric mystery that I found enjoyable overall, though it didn’t quite live up to my expectations. The story does eventually reveal why Hazel disappeared twenty years ago, but the resolution felt predictable and a bit underwhelming. It just didn’t deliver the impact I was hoping for. I’d recommend picking up the print version rather than the audiobook, as I think the narration would’ve been stronger with multiple voices to represent different characters.
That said, it’s still a solid read, especially for fans of In The Middle of the Night by Riley Sager.

While this one didn’t particularly “knock it out of the park” there were some interesting aspects, particularly the mother daughter relationships. The small island off the welsh coast was wonderfully atmospheric with an underlying eerie energy. This is really more of a slow-burn suspenseful drama with a ton of character development with a twist that felt inevitable.
I liked all the main characters so that’s a big win!

However, I wouldn’t recommend the audio. First off, it would have greatly benefitted from a full cast narration, and secondly, the welsh accents weren’t at the level I would have preferred.

Her sister Roz is haunted by her disappearance, even now, and her friends from that time still have lingering emotions also.
When the story is being picked up by a pod caster everyone has mixed feelings , but the three friends find themselves on the island Hazel is suspected to have never left.
So good. Kind of a slow burn scenic mystery. Loved it.

I really enjoyed this book and the mystery at its core. I loved how the story was told and the perspectives we got of the three main characters. I felt it added to the story and the narrative to see what loss and grief looks like from all sides within that loss of someone you know. I thought thw writing was great and I was engaged the whole time. I will say I became frustrated with some of the charsctwrs and hoe they spoke to one another and at times hoe nieve or childlike they sounded as now 30 plus year old woman. Also the big twist I saw coming from very early on so it wasn't a shock to me. The later half of the novel with dealing with the aftermath of the island I thought was done much better and I felt real closure with all the characters. It was a good book I felt it could have been more but something about it held it back. It might have been the obvious twist it the friendship dynamics within conversation or the length but something didn't fully click for me. Even though it didn't work perfectly for me it did still work and I enjoyed it.

Between the Waves is a story of three women (former bffs turned strangers) who return to an island where a traumatic event happened 20 years prior. Meeting them there is a true crime podcaster working to unravel the mystery that’s followed each of their vastly different lives.
While I found it a struggle to root for some of the characters I did find listening to their recollections and memories, secrets and silences fascinating. The twists themselves felt unexpected and the forced confrontation of their collective past held my attention even when I paused the book.
I do think the audiobook would’ve benefitted from having more narrators. Different voices for the three women would’ve helped me better keep straight which is which. While we do get answers in some ways I found the overall resolution slightly dissatisfying.

This was my first Hilary Tailor read. The title, cover artwork, and the description intrigued me. The narrative is well-written, and the characters have depth. Three families vacation together on a remote island while their children are on school break. The youngest child goes missing. The tragedy causes the dissolution of three friendships. Twenty years pass, a podcaster wants to interview the three girls who were classmates about the disappearance of Hazel. I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys these themes / tropes: remote island, complex female friendships, podcast element, witch lore, paranormal energy from rocks, and dual timeline.

This was okay. It felt like we had alot of unnecessary parts to get to the entire point of the story. And while i enjoyed the build up, it was pretty clear that one of the three women was involved. And the reveal? It was honestly pretty anticlimactic to me.

The story had potential but fell flat for me.

I am torn about this book. The writing style and overall story pretty were good, but I had a couple of issues with it.
The ending was drawn out (I would have expected it to wrap up quicker after we found out the truth).
My biggest issue was Roz. I HATED her and she made it really hard to get through parts of the book. This could be interpreted as a testament to the author’s character creation (creating a character that provoked such strong feelings towards, even if negative feelings). However, with audiobooks, I usually binge them and get through them in 1-2 days and this one took me over a week to finish as I had to keep shutting it off because I couldn’t stand Roz that much. I understand what happened was traumatic but holy cow! Get a grip, Roz! To get through some parts of the book, I had to listen to it sped up so I likely missed/didn’t pick up on some things.
If I had read (instead of listened to) the book, I might’ve been able to tolerate Roz more, but I really can’t say.
The narrator was great but I don’t understand why there weren’t multiple narrators (one for each character POV).

The narration for this book went with the story very well. Twenty years after after their friend Hazel disappeared on the Little Auger and was never found. What answers will they learn and what will they make of each other? This was a very moody and emotional book. I would listen/read another book by this author.

Between the Waves is my third book and it explores how childhood mistakes can bleed into adulthood. A few years ago, when I was on holiday in Wales, I came across a tidal island and became fascinated by the idea of being cut off from the rest of the world by something that couldn’t be controlled. I am half Welsh on my father’s side and nearly drowned on a Welsh beach when I was about five years old. Now, after writing my third book, I wonder if this event had a bigger influence on my life than I realised. The audio book is narrated by Bronwen Price, a Welsh voice actor. I hope you enjoy her narration.
