When Lucy Greer is hired by Thomas Caine, to care for his ailing wife, Emilia. She discovers she is working for a family with secrets
On the surface, things seem perfect, they are successful despite Emilias illness, but tragedy has struck, their son vanished years ago, and now Lucy is trying to discover the secrets and lies about the family.
This pacy thriller is a good read. it has many twists and I really enjoyed my reading time..

Wow, what a story! Lucy is hired by Thomas Caine as a live-in carer for his wife Emilia. From the start, Lucy feels as though things aren't quite right. Why is Emilia so heavily sedated? Why does Thomas allow his ex-wife to live in the house for weeks on end? What happened to their son, James? Well, you'll have to read this one to find out! Some jaw-dropping twists and surprising revelations await. An absolute page turner that I blazed through.
Thanks to Netgalley, Storm Publishing, and Amanda McKinney for the free ARC. All opinions are my own.

Wow, this is exactly how to keep written tension building. From the start its unputdownable and i read it greedily. To me it was also wildly original and gripping.

Lucy Greer finds herself on the doorstep of successful entrepreneur, Thomas Caine, who has hired her to care for his ailing wife, Emilia. But beneath the polished surface, something is terribly wrong. Their son vanished years ago, Emilia has secrets, and there are so many lies. Will Lucy find out what is going on with this secretive family?
This book kept my attention from page one (even though it seems I have chosen books about controlling husbands for my last several reads). Emilia stated it perfectly, “All forms of abuse leave scars. And most often, it’s the ones you can’t see that hurt the most.” The Wife’s Silence alternated between “Then” and “Now” – giving the backstory of Emilia and Thomas’s life. This was a great psychological thriller with a twisty ending!

I’m calling it now, BEST PLOT TWIST OF 2025!!
The Wife’s Silence gripped me from page one! I had to keep reading and find out everything that was going on with Thomas, Emilia, and Lucy. I love thrillers like that, that keep you wanting to read until you reach the end and you just HAVE to find out all the answers!
Oh, and the answers are SO WORTH IT!! The plot twist a little over halfway through (well somewhere between halfway and three fourths the way though) caught me so off guard. I did NOT see that coming, I was so shocked!! I mean I literally gasped out loud while reading it at work and my co-worker friend was laughing at me. Haha! I looove that I was that surprised by the twist!
This book has everything I love in a thriller. It’s very well written, fast-paced, twisty, enthralling, a little dark, and a bit revengeful! Can I give it 6 out of 5 stars??

I was super excited to read The Wife's Silence—I love Amanda McKinney! Lucy Greer is a woman down on her luck, desperately needing a job to get back on her feet. She becomes a live-in caregiver for Emilia Caine, who suffered a stroke. Emilia's husband, Thomas Caine, needs help taking care of her.
As Lucy starts working with the couple, she begins to notice odd things and feels like something isn’t quite right. She dives headfirst into caring for Emilia and becomes very protective of her. Lucy takes her job seriously, doing everything she can to protect and help Emilia.
The twists in this story were a mix of surprising and predictable moments. The first twist completely threw me for a loop—I definitely wasn’t expecting that! In hindsight, though, I’m left wondering about the interactions between Thomas and Lucy. While the twist was clearly meant to be a shock, from Lucy’s point of view, wouldn’t her thoughts and interactions with Thomas have been a bit less confused and clueless? The confusion in her perspective felt a little off in some places.
As the story neared its end, the twists came fast and furious—one after another. It was a bit overwhelming and honestly made my head spin! It felt like a bit too much toward the end.
I listened to the book using a screen reader, and I sped through it in one shift at work and during my commute. I’m so glad I didn’t have a physical copy of the book to put down—I might have called in sick just to keep reading!

Lucy has been hired by the wealthy artist, Thomas Caine, to care for his wife, Emilia, who suffered a stroke some years earlier. Lucy doesn't understand why Emilia is so heavily drugged, but she is determined to provide the best care for her that she can. Lucy also doesn't understand why Thomas' ex-wife, Meredith, perpetually drunk,, is allowed to stay at the house for long periods of time. When Meredith turns up dead, and Emilia seems more capable than Thomas gives her credit for, Lucy determines to help Emilia, no matter the cost, and to solve the mystery of her son who went missing over 20 years earlier.
Wow, I didn't see that coming! I zoomed through this intriguing story, told from multiple points of view. I couldn't wait to see if everything turned out well for Emilia and if Thomas would get what he deserved. I loved the character development and a plot with no loose ends.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC. All opinions are my own.

I have read many of Amanda's books and loved them all. The Wife's Silence was a little different from normal for me.
There was a twist in the story you don't see coming, but it was a very interesting story.
Thanks for the opportunity to read the ARC.

This was a twisty and engaging thriller! Be ready for a few HUGE twists that will shock you. Very good at pulling you in for a wild ride!

The novel is fast-paced, a true page-turner, and perfect for anyone in a reading slump. The writing is sharp, and the characters are well-developed, each carrying their own hidden demons. A solid 4-star read for me! A gripping psychological thriller that keeps you second-guessing every character. I really, really enjoyed this book. The story has so many layers in it and as layers of deception unfold, the question remains who is truly responsible for everything? I will definitely recommend this book to my friends and family.

This might be the quickest I have ever read a thriller. This was so good! I was afraid this was going to be too similar to another popular book with a similar premise and I was very happy that it was not so. This is twisty enough to shock even the most avid thriller readers. I enjoyed the writing and look forward to reading more from Amanda McKinney.
Thank you to Netgalley and Storm Publishing for this arc.

Lucy is desperate for a job and fresh start. She is hired as a caretaker for Thomas Caine's ailing wife, Emilia, who suffered a stroke. As a result, Emilia is bed ridden, cannot speak, and cannot take care of herself. Under the glamour of the beautiful home, Lucy suspects that everything isn't as it seems. She discovers that the Caine's teenage son disappeared years ago and was never found. Lucy befriends the housekeeper, who also has stories to share. But the only one who knows the truth is Emilia, who cannot speak.
I absolutely LOVED Amanda McKinney's last two thrillers - 5 star reads. Unfortunately, the Wife's Silence was not as good as her previous thrillers Still loved the style of writing, but this one ended up being pretty predictable. I have read quite a few thrillers with this same premise , so I guessed where things were headed. I enjoyed it but had to take off some stars for the predictability. It is a quick and easy read. If you do not read as many thrillers as I do, you will probably love this one and be quite shocked with the twists and turns. Avid thriller readers will be disappointed.

Great suspenseful mystery with a twist I didn’t see coming. The Wife’s Silence is the second book I’ve read by Amanda McKinney and she’s quickly become one of my favorite mystery authors. Lucy is hired to care for Emilia by Emilia’s husband Thomas because Emilia is bound to her bed after a stroke. Lucy soon finds out that something’s not right with the whole situation. Clues are dropped slowly with a big plot twist midway through the book. Great ending too.

Lucy gets a job as a carer to Emilia who has suffered a stroke and moves in to the family home. We quickly find out that nothing is as straight forward as that and there is a lot more to the stories of all the main characters than first alluded to. Lucy has a big secret of her own, which comes out later in the story. Thomas is very aloof and uncaring, being much more involved in his work studio than he is with his wife. Emilia is very aware of something but is unable to tell anyone. As the story develops, all of the background plots merge together leading to an action packed final section.

Oh I really liked this one! The character development was on point and blended so well with the plot. The pacing will ensure you devour this book in one sitting.

Amanda McKinney has done it again. An intriguing story with devious characters and a somewhat satisfying ending.
The story goes back and forth in time with multiple POV's. Each POV keeps you hooked as the story goes forward. However a certain character reveal didn't have the impact it should have. It may have been possible because of the reveal quite early in the book.
Another element which I felt didn't work was a certain exaggerated feel to it. The story didn't feel as tight as it should have been. A few liberties taken with certain scenes makes it a bit unbelievable.
Other than that, I found the story quite interesting and it's a good binge read.
I give the book 4 stars.
I thank NetGalley and Storm Publishing for the E-Arc and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Lucy is hired by Thomas Caine to take care of his wife who has had a stroke. She has Aphasia, and is basically drugged to the eyeballs.
Thomas is controlling, and the story is told in several POV's, the reader can detect when the control began over Emilia.
Quite a complex plot. There are subplots and many secrets.
Engrossing, and unputdownable, I just had to see where this was leading.
Thomas is a dark character, totally unlikeable.
Emilia is stronger than she realises.
Lucy is the dark horse. Caring and calculating.
I would never have guessed Lucy's secret.
I totally recommend this novel, full of secrets and revenge.

Thomas Caine, a very successful businessman, hires Lucy to care for his sick wife, Emilia. From the minute Lucy arrives at the huge, isolated home, she has a bad feeling. The Caine’s son vanished some years ago and everyone is very cagey about it. Emilia appears to be mute, but is she silent in order to cover up secrets?
A gripping psychological thriller.

5-Star Review for The Wife’s Silence by Amanda McKinney
The Wife’s Silence is a deeply unsettling psychological thriller that pulled me in from the very first page. The story follows Lucy as she takes a job caring for Emilia, a woman who hasn’t spoken since her son vanished. But as Lucy gets closer to the Caine family, it becomes clear that something isn’t right—buried secrets and twisted lies begin to surface, leading to a shocking truth.
Amanda McKinney’s writing is sharp and engaging, creating an eerie atmosphere that lingers long after the final chapter. The unpredictable twists and layered characters kept me on edge, making this a must-read for fans of The Silent Patient and Behind Her Eyes.

3.5 stars, rounded up to 4 stars.
This was entertaining and for the most part kept my interest. I'd read one other book by the author, which I'd enjoyed, and this was no exception. Bouncing between two time frames and several points of view, I was hoping for several twists that would come out of the blue -- I didn't get that, but I was reasonably satisfied with how things finished.
Overall a solid read. Would I read more from the author? Yes.
I received a complimentary copy of the novel from the publisher and NetGalley, and my review is being left freely.
