Thank you to NetGalley for allowing me to arc read this book!
This was a very good book that highlighted on trauma and recovery. I enjoyed where it was focused on the recovery and resolution of the case.
I do wish we could have had a longer section of her experience. I feel the book is presented as a thriller and when I think of thriller I think of an almost whole book of a traumatic experience. I think it was one or two chapters in this novel that presented Amanda's experience.
Despite that, it was still a really good read that I enjoyed!

Thanks so much Netgalley, booksgosocial publishing, and J.E. Rowney for the opportunity to read this book….This book was a really good read and it tore at my heartstrings…..I couldn’t imagine going through this type of trauma!!!!

Where No One Can Hear You is a gripping, edge of your seat, kidnapping thriller. The prologue had me instantly hooked and the rest of the book did not disappoint!
The book deals with many sensitive subjects, but the author does a good job of being delicate in how she portrays the mental/emotional struggles that can come with difficult life circumstances , violence and trauma, and the healing and struggles after the fact. I thought it was refreshing that the main focus became the healing journey of the main character and her family vs the experience of the “bad guy”. As an SLP myself, I also appreciated the speech therapist representation in the story, even if it wasn't exactly an accurate portrayal. Thank you to J.E. Rowney, BooksGoSocial, and NetGalley for the ARC in return for my honest review.

⭐ 4.5
I am speechless with this book, it left me staring into the void (still am and that's already three days since I finished it), from the first pages I just had a lump in my throat, Amanda, our protagonist is a 16 year old girl who like everyone at that age is a bit rebellious, let's say her thoughts were a bit raw, they made me feel what she was feeling and that's why I think I had the lump in my throat from the beginning. When it all happens, the scene was terrifying, heartbreaking, so much so that I had to stop reading for a while to process it, even though it is not as descriptive, we are from Amanda's point of view and that made it all seem real. When she is recovering is something that wow, it leaves me speechless because her only longing is for them to find Sarah, not to recover, not to be well just to find Sarah, I feel that this more than a thriller is a book of overcoming, it is a book that makes you think (among all the bad), I feel that Amanda evolved a lot, survivor's guilt is something real and raw and this book presented it very well. The ending left me satisfied, focus more on the victims, the author gave voice to their fears and hopes and that made me like it even more.

Yikes! Bikes!!!
Where No One Can Hear You..... even the title gives me the creeps.
JE Rowney delivers a chilling and suspenseful experience, exploring themes of isolation, paranoia, and the fragility of sanity. Rowney excels at creating a deeply unsettling atmosphere.
The build of psychological tension, drew me right into Amanda's increasingly fractured mental state. The gradual unraveling of perception of reality is handled with skill, creating a sense of paranoia that permeates the narrative. I questioned everything. Is this really happening or am I just being told this is happening?
Im not usually a fan of slow burns but this book had just the right amount of twists and turns to keep me intrigued.
All in all, JE Rowney gives the reader exactly what they are craving . Where No One Can Hear You will be well talked about for years to come.
Check out this teaser :
Sometimes silence is more terrifying than screams.
Sixteen-year-old Amanda Gray's life shatters when what should have been a simple walk home with her best friend Sarah turns into a nightmare. One moment they're picking bluebells in the woods; the next, they're at the mercy of a predator who seems chillingly familiar with his routine.
Six weeks later, Amanda wakes in a hospital bed with a slash across her throat, her voice stolen, and no memory of how she escaped. And no one will talk to her about Sarah.
And the worst part?
Her most crucial memory might be the one she can't speak
Where No One Can Hear Youis a haunting exploration of survival, memory, and the lengths one will go to save someone they love—even when they can't save themselves.

This story will tug at her heart.
It’s about two teens who decide to make a slight detour heading home from school to pick flowers for one of their moms to help brighten her day only to be caught in a completely unexpected situation.
It’s this situation that carries this story thru the journey of the girls and their families.
A must read. Sad and heartbreaking but so worth the read.

"Sometimes silence is more terrifying than screams."
Where No One Can Hear You by J.E. Rowney is an emotionally charged thriller that explores the themes of trauma, grief and guilt.
Amanda Gray is just sixteen years old when she experiences a traumatic act of violence. While walking in the woods to collect flowers, Amanda and her best friend Sarah are brutally attacked and left for dead. When Amanda wakes up she is in the hospital with a severe injury to her throat. Completely voiceless and terrified, Amanda struggles to recall all of the traumatic experience. Determined to regain her voice and ask about Sarah, Amanda will push herself to find her voice, herself, and Sarah.
Wow!!! This book was a completely different take on the thriller genre then I am used to. Rich with emotional turmoil and very immersive, I was hooked. While this novel deals with very sensitive subjects, Rowney is delicate in how she portrays not only the violence of trauma but also the healing and growth afterwards. Amanda's character is written brilliantly, her strength and determination is amazing to see. I would definitely recommend this to fans of Alice Feeney and Gillian Flynn and also readers who love emotional psychological dramas / thrillers!
Thank you to NetGalley, J.E. Rowney and BooksGoSocial for this ARC. Publication date is March 28th 2025.

This story is going to stay with me for awhile. I like the direction the author went with the book, what her focus was. Even though the characters are fictional, it made me think of those who survived such vicious crimes and those who have a good fight to survive.
This book won’t be for everyone, but for those who enjoy shows like Criminal Minds, law and order and for those who like reading dark books, this is for you.
All in all it was a good read. Repetitive at times and I never want to hear bruised colour walls again. Bring Kleenex.

Wow!! That prologue is EXACTLY what I like to read in a book. The kind that sucks you in and makes you want more!
This book was nothing short of amazing! Amanda experiences a horrific attack and finds herself clinging to her life. Her recovery process, both mentally and physically, is long and arduous.
This was a book that I truly did NOT want to put down. I
found myself thinking about Amanda while at work and praying the clock would move quicker.
Highly recommended!!
Thank you to NetGalley for the opportunity to read this ARC in exchange for my honest opinion/review

"Where No One Can Hear You" by J.E. Rowney is more than just a gripping thriller—it’s an emotionally charged journey that delves into trauma, guilt, and grief with raw authenticity. I didn’t expect this book to hit me as hard as it did, but there were moments when I couldn’t hold back tears.
What sets this book apart in the thriller genre is its seamless blend of psychological tension and deep emotional resonance. It’s not just about the mystery or the ever-present danger; it’s about survival—both physical and emotional—and the struggle for healing, making the stakes feel even higher. Rowney masterfully balances suspense with moments of genuine vulnerability, crafting a story that is as heart-wrenching as it is thrilling.
"Where No One Can Hear You" is a must-read—powerful, thought-provoking, and deeply affecting. It lingers long after the final page, and it certainly has for me.

J.E. Rowney’s Where No One Can Hear You is a gripping and emotionally charged psychological thriller that delves into trauma, resilience, and the fragile nature of memory. With its intense narrative and heart-wrenching themes, this novel keeps readers on edge from start to finish.
The story follows sixteen-year-old Amanda Gray, whose life is shattered by a terrifying act of violence. What begins as an innocent walk through the woods with her best friend Sarah spirals into a nightmare that leaves Amanda hospitalized, voiceless, and unable to recall the crucial events that led to her survival. The physical scar on her throat is a constant reminder of the ordeal, but the psychological wounds cut even deeper. The absence of Sarah, and the silence surrounding her fate, adds a devastating layer of mystery.
Rowney masterfully captures the emotional turmoil of a young girl grappling with fragmented memories and a profound sense of loss. Amanda’s inability to speak becomes a powerful symbol of her struggle — not only to recall what happened, but also to confront the truths that others may be hiding. The narrative’s intimate perspective draws readers into Amanda’s fractured mind, making each moment of recollection and revelation feel intensely personal.
The tension builds as Amanda’s fragmented memories begin to resurface, leading to chilling discoveries. Rowney’s writing is both sensitive and immersive, exploring the lasting effects of trauma with authenticity and compassion. The exploration of survivor’s guilt, the unreliability of memory, and the desperate need for closure is handled with emotional depth.
Supporting characters, particularly Amanda’s family and the professionals tasked with her care, add further complexity to the story. Their own fears and frustrations are palpable, making the reader question who — if anyone — Amanda can truly trust. Each twist in the plot is carefully placed, heightening the suspense and keeping the pages turning.
Where No One Can Hear You is more than just a thriller; it’s a poignant examination of survival, healing, and the enduring strength of the human spirit. Readers who enjoy psychological dramas with a powerful emotional core, such as those by Gillian Flynn or Alice Feeney, will find themselves captivated by Rowney’s haunting tale.

Thank you to JE Rowney, BooksGoSocial, and Netgalley for the e-arc of Where No One Can Hear You! Dark/ intense thriller read with short chapters! Lots of trauma and grief unfolding for the main character. I’ve read multiple books by this author and this is another hit! Check your trigger warnings! This book publishes on 3/28/25!

4⭐️ Thank you to NetGalley and BooksGoSocial for an advanced copy of Where No One Can Hear You.
Teenagers Amanda and Sarah are best friends almost like sisters. They leave after school detention one day and decide to go pick flowers. Then they are approached by a man looking for his lost dog but Amanda has a gut feeling this man is no good they try to leave but it is too late he attacks. One of the girls awakens in a hospital unable to speak but determined to find out where her friend is and what happened to them.
I would check your trigger warnings before reading this book. This story is a story of survival and how to heal after being a victim of a violent attack. This was a heavy read but I really enjoyed the way the author told the story in such a raw real way.

Thanks netgalley for the ARC!
I really enjoyed this book and absolutely flew through it! I was a bit surprised that all of the main thriller aspects of the novel happened towards the beginning - I didn’t realize how much was going to be focused on Amanda’s journey.
Amanda was such an empathetic character who went through so much but came through it all so much stronger than before. I loved to see her progression throughout her hospital and rehab stays, and it was an interesting perspective on a thriller to put the focus after the events rather than the build up/climax of the events.
The only portion of this book I did not like is how repetitive it could be in places. Either re-using the same phrases a ton (ex. The bruise-colored wallpaper) or kind of touching on the same themes/concepts a bit too heavily. There was not a lot implied here, a lot was spelled out for the reader that maybe could have been put across in a more subtle manner.
Overall would highly recommend!

Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC. My first from this author and her writing style is straightforward and easy to read, but the plot was not. A great book. Not so much a mystery as a journey.

Thanks to Netgalley and BooksGoSocial for this ARC!
The plot follows the aftermath of some traumatic events, where the heroine is trying to recover her memory and help with the investigation.
It was tense, but honestly, nothing surprised me—no shocking twists. I was curious about what would happen next, but it also got a bit boring.
It was painful and at times hard to read. The fmc is well-developed, so her feelings felt very real, and I teared up a bit.
But I realized I’m not really into thrillers like this; I’d watch a movie version, but reading this kind of stuff isn’t my thing.
Amanda Grey is 16 and lives with her mom, who has a new boyfriend in the picture. Her only comfort is Sarah, her long-time best friend. Everything falls apart when the friends take a long way home through the woods. After that, Amanda wakes up in the hospital...
This is my first time reading this author, and her writing style is pretty straightforward—easy and quick to read.

I have read several books by this author and this is a great thriller which does not disappoint. 16 year old Amanda is walking home from school with her best friend Sarah when they are attacked and abducted. Amanda wakes up in hospital, unable to speak due to having her throat slashed and reliving the abduction. A great telling of Amanda's trauma, her battle to regain her speak and her determination to help the police find her friend Sarah who is still missing. A great read.

Thank you NetGalley! This was my first book by this author and I was not disappointed. It really made me feel for the main character as I read. I was sucked in and stuck in the story until the end

Thank you to netgalley and the publisher for allowing me to read this arc. This one evoked alot of emotion! Very well written. A great thriller, I got to feel the emotions of the characters and learn how it feels after a tragic event. It also gave me hope and taught about survival. Very moving thriller!

This is a story of trauma and what it takes for the main character to keep going throughout the difficult aspects in front of her.
It’s not so much a thriller or suspense as it is a book about fighting for survival, forgiveness, healing and acceptance of the circumstance of everything that has happened.
While this was a good book and the story was solid. It wasn’t quite what I was expecting when I started reading it.
For that I’m giving it four stars.
Thank NetGalley & BooksGoSocial for this arc read.
