There is much to like about this novel, but I found it a very slow read. At first blush, it seemed to be another story of a midlife woman having an existential crisis as her marriage has grown stale and her children have left home to launch their own lives. However, I found myself intrigued by the descriptions of the farm community, nature, and the artist’s struggle to reclaim her confidence in her talent. Overall, I was gratified to see the book to its conclusion which ended on a high note.
My thanks to the author, the publisher, and NetGalley for the privilege of reviewing this book. The opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

I downloaded this book and immediately felt as though I needed to read it. This was such an incredibly thought provoking and so engaging that I was just turning the pages and wanting to absorb the book even faster. I instantly identified with Fen - she just grabbed and caught my attention immediately. The every day routine of life took from her being able to pursue her passion - art. Is that enough? Is it ever enough to just do what is expected and is rather mundane?
The prose in this book is absolutely stunning - it's vivid and mesmerizing. The stifling city, and then the openness of the country in Yorkshire was AMAZING. I truly felt as though I was there. It was just incredible and the amount of research this author did is just incredible.
Such a fantastic book and I am so grateful I have been able to read it!
Thank you to so much to Resolute Books and NetGalley for this e-arc in exchange for my honest review.
