This volume surprised me with how much it deepened my connection to the series. It feels like you're getting a behind-the-scenes glimpse into a world you already adore—almost like reading someone’s personal diary filled with unexpected insights and details you might have missed. I’m genuinely excited about what’s coming next, and I’m very grateful to NetGalley and the publisher for this early peek at such an enriching read!

"Visions of Flesh and Blood" by Jennifer L. Armentrout may appeal to readers of paranormal romance, but it leaves much to be desired for those looking for a deeper, more compelling story. Because this is a companion guide. I personally didn't find this useful. The series can be confusing but I was so bored by this and ended up skimming this. If you're a fan of the series, you'll love it. But it was not far me.

Visions of Flesh and Blood is an amazing companion to the Blood and Ash and Flesh and Fire worlds. As a compendium, Visions is more like an encyclopedia of the world and includes elements of the history, world building, magic, and the primary characters. This book will help you with all the details related to the gods and Primals, the Ascended, family trees, and more. It has amazing character art throughout. It is told through the POV of Miss Willa Colyns, a fan favorite character, it is presented as a series of journal entries, and familiarizes readers with the Blood and Ash/Flesh and Fire worlds up through the 5th and 3rd books respectively. I was glad to reread this in advance of the Primal of Blood and Bone's release later this year, as it reacquainted me with some favorite characters and background of the world. For readers new to this series - this is NOT a novel that continues the main storyline of either series. While there are some hints and information about the final books, this is more like a compilation. It can be read in bits and pieces over time, or you can refer to it to look up an element of the world or the background of a character as you read the main novels. It does not need to be read in order, but if you read it before A Soul of Ash and Blood or A Fire in the Flesh, you may encounter some spoilers.
I really enjoyed this book, and think it is an incredible companion to one of my favorite series.

Thank you so much to NetGalley and to Blue Box Press for a copy of this amazing book. All opinions are my own.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Jennifer L. Armentrout has done it again with Visions of Flesh and Blood, delivering an utterly captivating deep dive into the world of Poppy, Casteel, and the rich mythology of the From Blood and Ash series. This compendium is a must-read for fans who crave more insight into the gods, the realms, and the intricate lore that weaves this epic fantasy romance together.

The level of detail in this book is nothing short of stunning. From the history of the gods to the origins of the wolven and Atlantians, every page is packed with fascinating revelations that enhance the depth of the series. Armentrout's signature storytelling shines through, making even the most lore-heavy sections feel immersive rather than overwhelming.

Beyond the worldbuilding, Visions of Flesh and Blood also gives readers an emotional punch, with glimpses into pivotal moments and characters we’ve come to love (or love to hate). It’s the kind of book that makes you want to immediately reread the entire series with fresh eyes, catching all the little details that now hold even greater significance.

If you're a devoted From Blood and Ash fan, this book is an absolute treasure trove. It’s the perfect companion to the series, blending mythology, history, and heart into a mesmerizing experience. Highly recommend!

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read and review this incredible addition to the series.

Read this book when you want to re-enter the world and for the spice! It's cute and fun with all the steamy scenes. Some parts were a tad boring for me but I recognize that this isn't a main character energy book. I did like that there is some additional explanations to help connect the dots missing in other books.

This was so fun. I could never get enough of this series so having this compendium was a great addition.

I like that it's told by Miss Willa. The journal entries I think are the best part. Having all this information in one spot is really helpful. If you're reading one of the main series books and forget what something is or need to reference something it's almost certainly going to be in the compendium. A lot better than having to find where it could be in one of the previous books.

There are a few exclusive scenes and notes but like with Miss Willa the notes are my favorite. I love any compendium type book. I'd love to have this in physical form for my next series reread.

More Poppy and Casteel.... It's a compendium with extra info about all the characters. Extra scenes for those who can't get enough. Love the Miss Willa info too. An excellent recap of what happens so far in the series... And trust me, there has been a lot that I forgot.... There is also a few new crumbs... Love them all...

Thanks to the publisher for the arc.

This is such a fun concept! I love when expansive series release compendiums that offer a solid recap of the story so far along with some bonus content. Getting it from the infamous Miss Willa’s perspective is such a treat—and a clever way to give fans exactly what they want (who doesn’t love a little fan service?). I love this for what it is and appreciate the commitment to building hype!

This is a fun reference book for fans of the series but that's all. Nothing new was really revealed. I found the writing really unpolished and dry most of the time. I also didn't care for how repetitive and out of chronological order it was.

Finally, the book a lot of JLA fans have been waiting for! From the scandalous queen herself! I know some fans didn't like this because they probably thought it was going to read like the emily wilde book but have the title of a research book but that's not the case. This feels so much more insightful into the world of JLA. The side characters are always the one we love to see. The romance is giving and make you see them in a different perspective. The pacing, plot, and writing is different because JLA was trying to give fans an all-comprehensive view of the world of this fantasy world.
Perfect if you love: her other books and the world of Blood and Ash.
Thank you so much to the JLA, the publisher, and NetGalley for this arc!

I loved this compendium. It is the perfect addition for all the FBAA world fans both vibers and theorizers. Some new nuggets that may help piece some of the story together, as well as great overview of what we know up to this point. The artwork is absolutely stunning. I love this world so much and I am on the edge of my seat waiting for POBAA.

Thank you so much Netgalley and the Publisher for this ARC opportunity. It never gets old getting approved for your favourite authors!

So, I started this book several months ago, then put it down to read other books. Then I sold it because I didn’t have the ability to have all my books anymore (🥲) and have spent the last few months regretting that decision.

When Blue Box Press sent me an ARC of it, I felt like crying happy tears. I’m so glad to say that I have finally finished reading this book!

If you know me personally, you know I’m obsessed with the From Blood and Ash Series and honestly anything else JLA writes. This series has a special place in my heart, and anytime Casteel would make a Miss Willa joke in the series, I laughed so hard. So knowing that this book is written with letters from Miss Willa sold me on it.

I absolutely loved Miss Willa’s letters, the art, and the insight into some of the things we read about. For example, the Atlantia Characters guide is really helpful to help match names to people. There’s so many characters in this series, so I loved having insight into them.

The art and playlists were what really made this book special for me though. Seeing my favorite characters come to life like this made me feel all the feelings. And I loved having the playlists! I really want to do a reread while listening to the playlists so I can really get into the mood of the scenes.

Thank you so very much to Blue Box Press for an ARC of this book. You really made my day. All opinions are my own and are not influenced by the manner in which I received it.

Thank you NetGalley for the ebook arc. We have all be waiting to see a book from Miss Willa. It’s nice to have the pronunciations written out for those that don’t listen to the audiobook versions. The glossary is very informative and going over the different creatures from the series.

This would be a great book to have when you forget what has happened and need to be reminded, other wise it’s just information you would already know from reading the series and a couple extra scenes.

This is a great journal that is a great reference as well as recap for both the blood and ash and flesh and fire series. It’s an amazing reference for fans who might forget a character or any information and I highly recommend it for a quick refresher. I highly enjoyed this and loved the couple of extra stories by Ms Willa.

This compendium is the perfect refresher for all lovers of the FBAA and FFAF series! It gives a great reference to the worlds, while giving some tidbits we haven't seen or heard in those worlds before. I love that the one and only Miss Willa "wrote" it from her perspective. It will be a must have for those that haven't done or won't have time for a re-read before the release of Primal this summer!
