Convoluted murder mystery and was essentially good, but it felt a bit wordy and slow in spots. Foley weaves his characters together and creates a mosaic of crime and passion. I liked the book.

As the title might suggest, the coast in question is still very much a smuggler 's cove, even if the contraband these days is more about illicit drugs and money payouts.

The story is, set on an island off the coast of Florida. Paradisival, though trouble comes to paradise in the form of the vicious and sadistic murder of a retired lady. Gangland vengeance is suspectéd, though it is as yet unclear why this particular old lady met her in seeming demise.

Enter Lisa Owen, an overworked homicide inspector, bullies by her misogynist boss. It soon turns out that the old lady murdered was a dear friend of hers. Then, two more old ladies die. Surely that can't be homicide too.......

In the mean time, a green organisation interested in the protection of turtles amongst other is begins to be corrupted from the inside by tje equally sadistic individual who sent the hotman to neutralise the old old lady. The wrong old lady, as it turns out.. Des Fuentes is a perfectionist boss. One slip-up, and a terrible death is bound to ensue.

Lisa teams up with a local cop to get to the bottom of things. But wiil they succeed in neutralising the evil that resides at the heart of their idyllic community?

There is a great feel-good factor in following the successes of this new team of sleuths, the only possible caveat being that the villain's motivations and clues as to what made him this way are not really explored within the course of the narrative. These only really come out as a set of explanations at the end.

Still, there is plenty of suspense and twists to kero the overs of thrillers happy, so this novel can certainly be recommended.

The Treasure Coast of Florida is a beautiful locale, but it has become the home of a dangerous criminal with tentacles spread throughout the business establishments and possibly law enforcement. Miami Homicide Detective Lisa Owens becomes involved due to a personal connection to a crime victim. Lisa is an extremely likeable and well-developed character who I would enjoy reading about in future stories. I received an ARC from NetGalley, and the opinions expressed are my own.

I was hooked! I really enjoyed the story that was structured by day and time, to have a mental timeline to understand when every event was happening. It is a page turner and without a doubt, you get hooked to the story and the characters, and need to keep reading. It also gives the sensation that you suspect every person that appear in the pages until the last. I easily recommed this book!

A stunning island with turquoise waters, billowing palm trees, and nesting sea turtles is the stuff of dreams. But the dark nights on the beaches of Florida's Treasure Coast hide dangerous secrets that can turn those dreams into nightmares. Miami homicide detective, Lisa Owens, doesn't trust other cops. After the murder of her fiancé was left unsolved, she vowed to make a difference by becoming one herself. Obsessed with getting killers off the streets and bringing justice to grieving families, she buries herself in her work while staying stuck in the past! Well my son just ran a marathon on the treasure coast! My first time there and it was beautiful! Also I was born in Wallingford CT!! Not sure if Wally has anything to do with that but I know Meridan CT was mentioned! So maybe? Anyway great read! I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book! It had great suspense, intriguing, action packed, beautiful scenes, and so many wild twists and turns! The story was very interesting! I highly recommend reading this book! Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for sharing this book with me!
