Unfortunately, I have not been able to read and review this book.
After losing and replacing my broken Kindle and getting a new phone I was unable to download the title again for review as it was no longer available on Netgalley.
I’m really sorry about this and hope that it won’t affect you allowing me to read and review your titles in the future.
Thank you so much for giving me this opportunity.
Natalie.
I really wanted to enjoy the Life and Death of Sophie Stark (by Anna North) but it didn't hold my interest
I loved this book. One of the best books I have read this year. Floods of tears at the end. Extraordinary tale about a small indie filmmaker, Sophie Stark, told by a handful of the people who came closest to knowing her. A misfit in school and college, she comes off as just plain weird. As an adult, she is an irregular weave - obsessed, tortured, and damaged, but with occasional flashes of brilliance with her odd movies.
Gripping and provocative, The Life and Death of Sophie Stark tells a story of fame, love, and legacy through the propulsive rise of an iconoclastic artist.
Thank you for the opportunity to read this book. Unfortunately, it wasn't for me, but I'm sure others will love it.
I found this quite a hard book to read and could not connect with the characters. Perhaps me rather then the book but I did not quite enjoy it as much as I thought I would.
I really can't be a fair reviewer of this book because Sophie Stark reminds me of a more destructive yet more sympathetic version of a friend of mine. The same judgmental self-centered narcissism meant that I had difficulty separating the two meaning that I so strongly feel like Stark's final actions were completely out-of-character but I don't know if that's my friend or the character North wrote. I also really disliked the final conceit because the book really didn't scan well in hindsight to me.
