(I received a free copy of this book from Net Galley in exchange for an honest review.)
Jasper Dent can’t escape his family. Wherever he goes, whatever he does, his father’s reputation hangs over him.
Because Billy Dent’s not like other dads. He’s a serial killer.
And now he’s got Jasper’s girlfriend in his clutches.
Billy must be stopped, against all the odds. Jasper knows he’s the only one who can do it, the only one smart enough and quick enough to find him.
After all, it’s in his blood.
This is the third book in the Jasper Dent series. I have read the previous novels so this review is also based on comparison with the previous stories.
There is a style to the authors writing that is definitely engaging and made me want to come back and read this third book. Sure, the blood and violence and all the other cool stuff helps, but it is the way that Lyga had presented the characters, the mysteries and the psychology of the story that made the previous two books standouts.
While this book still rates a "positive" 3 stars, it was disappointing compared to the previous two. And why is that? Cos nothing really new takes place. We are faced with the same people, the same psychological truths, the unusual dreams are still there - in fact, you could almost say it was the same story, just with a different title.
And that is sad because I thought this was going to be the book that blew away a lot of the competition, making Barry Lyga a name to be reckoned with. Instead, it just left me feeling like I had just wasted my time reading this near-500 page book.
