There was much to enjoy here, but I found I couldn't connect with it. I'd read more from this author in the future though.

This book is fantastic! I admit that I put off reading it, as I have to be in the mood for fantasy novels, but once I started it I couldn't put it down. Very reminiscent of Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell, it seemed to start in quite a similar way - a lack of magic in England causing bother to those who are forutnate (and eligible) enough to be able to perform/use it. As the book gathers speed however, the wonderfully savvy female protagonist Prunella rises to the challenge in order to help Zacharias, the Sorceror Royal, bring magic back to England.

I can't wait for the next installment!
