Another great read from Susan Lewis she really knows how to get the reader to connect with the characters. This book is quite an emotional story and I didn’t want to put it down. Not only is packed with suspense and mystery but it also has plenty of drama.
Why has Justine left England with her 4-year-old daughter and why is she hiding in her native U.S., when she is still in love with her husband?
Well, there is a reason. Cruel, unexpected, the one what can tear your heart. How can anyone heal from that? And yet, life must go on.
Honestly, I have mixed feelings about this book. From the literary point I find the present motif being one that is expectionally well-thought of and so interesting as a conflict! While I don’t want to give anything away, I must say that this is a great literature and so touching human situation!
But the past secret...well. My reading gusto went totally down after that. Honestly, the authoress can creat such a full-bodied present situation and then she goes for the most redundant, so often used motif? (I am here as a literary lover, so my criticising is made solely from that point).
I was like a child who is expecting a good Christmas gift and then is given a new school supplies - no magic, no thoughtfulness, just sheer means to get to the aimed goal.
And also the way to heal is too short given the amount of pages spent to build the atmosphere until we learn the secret.
So while I believe that the talent is here, I wish for more courage to go into the real issues. Suffering is real. Claim it.
Having said all that, I will read the next book from that authoress, as the potential of her is so big.
