There was much to enjoy here, but I found I couldn't connect with it. I'd read more from this author in the future though.

I may have set my initial expectations low so I was pretty surprised and amazed at how successful Cooper was at embedding his story into a context-this is fantastic historical fiction. I loved this exploration of the lack of control an author has over the ways his text moves through the world amidst a setting so well realized with details but not in a show off way. The language itself is more like the type of poetry considered blasphemy but Cooper remains true to his protagonists with this epic-feeling with not a hero in sight.
