I liked this. The two main characters work well together. D.I. Calladine and D.S. Ruth Bayliss find a body in a car crash but they were already dead. Sounded intriguing and I did like it but the pace was a bit slow for me.
An author that I had heard of but never read until now. This is actually the second book in a series. Found it fast paced and a definite page turner. Look forward to the next book.
Dead Silent continues the story of Calladine and Bayliss through another gruesome case. As this series is shaping up to be a full series of rather short-but-enjoyable police procedurals, I couldn't help but wonder whether the focus was not a little too much on the personal lives of the main characters.
Both their personal lives are rather a mess, and Calladine has a lot of problems with his cousin also. The case was interested and kept me reading, but it never really stood out.
Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for providing me with a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review!

Female students are going missing but nobody’s noticed yet...
A body is found in a car crash, but the victim was already dead . . .
Police partners, D.I. Calladine and D.S. Ruth Bayliss race against time to catch a vicious serial killer. The first two victims are American university students and both have livestock tags fixed to their earlobes.
Who wanted them dead and what’s the connection? The detectives piece together the forensic evidence and track down the witnesses, to reach a shocking conclusion.
This is the second book featuring DI Calladine and DS Bayliss. I haven't read the first book but I do think this can be happily read as a standalone novel.
This was a decent enough story. There is a good mystery involving a serial killer and the hunt for he or she is quite good. It's a shame it didn't just focus on that...
The things that disappointed me were the graphic nature of the descriptions. Not that I have anything against it, but it seemed to go against the style of the writing. Like it was added for shock value. Also, the personal relationships between Tom and Ruth got quite tedious. Their conversations about each others' personal lives starts to become too much and I found myself flicking through those parts...
A good mystery that could have used just a little more "mystery" and a little less "personal"...
