A fun, warm and emotionally charged book! My first by the author but have already bought the other White Cliff Bay books!

Amazing book so much so I bought the paperback copy when I saw it on sale. I could see myself in the cottage which Penny lives in and was very jealous of the description of the view she has of White Cliff Bay! Throw in a single dad and his daughter and Penny is shown that Christmas at Lilac Cottage is the best one yet. Casn't wait for the next book!

Such a lovely read Holly really knows how to create a magical narrative. The descriptions created a charming setting in my mind and I found it hard to put the book down and read it in one sitting. Holly creates a good build up of the connection between the characters. A brilliant Christmas read!

I had to DNF this about 10% of the way in for fear of my eyes rolling so much I'd lose them in the back of my head. I'm sorry but it's just so cliché and not even in a cutesy, Christmas nicey way. The writing isn't bad, it flows well but the characters are just so off-putting. It is laid on so thick how Penny is this overlooked, lonely women who has basically been left on some shelf unwanted and unloved, her world is basically over (who I might add is actually only 29) and shock horror, gorgeous Henry who has women falling all over him (cringe) has broken the mould and loves her instantly. First night and they only just manage to keep their hands off each other because Penny assumes Henry has a daughter. Penny has this poor me act and assumes that no one can ever love her even though she's described as the ultimate babe who is just all round the dream catch and has many talents and is just the most lovely person - urgh, lets tick a number of boxes with this one. I'm assuming the whole mix up with Daisy potentially being Henry's daughter is to add a bit of drama but it's just stupid, especially when she gets to accusing him then Daisy tricks him into having her over for dinner. I just cannot go on.

A Sweet Christmas read that was a fairly quick read. Can be read in a day. Perfect for curling up with a blanket and a cup of tea.

After having read a few other Holly Martin books, I have discovered that her writing style and books are not for me unfortunately.

I love books by Holly Martin, and this one did not disappoint. Penny is a damaged woman, one who has been holed up for eight years in Lilac Cottage after a devastating experience. She is not looking for a man, she is looking for friends and is hoping that Henry and his wife Daisy will fit the bill. When Penny is your friend, she goes out of her way to help and care about you. When we first meet Henry, I thought he was a miserable, uptight snob, but when we got to know him, how wrong I was. Daisy, it turns out, it not his wife and that changes Penny's hope for a friendly couple living in her annex. I do not want to give away anymore of the story, but suffice it to say that Henry and Penny will get their Happily Ever After. I loved the small town of White Cliff Bay. There were some great secondary characters who added so much to the story. As well, the festival and Christmas Spirit got me in the mood for Christmas, even though it is still two months away. I devoured Henry's and Penny's story in one day and am ready to continue the White Cliff Bay series with the next book, Snowflakes on Silver Cove. I can't wait to read more by this wonderful and funny author. I definitely recommend this to anyone who loves a feel good Christmas Romance.

I loved the characters in this one - Penny, Henry, and Daisy. Their interactions and dialogue were fun to read. The setting and backdrop to the story were wonderful, and I enjoyed the storyline as well. This was a really good start for a series and I look forward to more.

Christmas at Lilac College, by Holly Martin, tells the story of Penny Meadows, late twenties, ice sculptor, and lonely lady. To add something new to her life, she decides to rent the annex to her home to what she believes to be a young couple. To her surprise it is single dad Henry Travis and his teenage daughter, Daisy, that are her new tenants.
Penny and Henry have much in common, both artists working with their hands, and readily connect, talking like old friends. And when they make this connection, things begin to sizzle. However, their histories, fears, and the intrusion of others, makes this holiday story rise and fall as the tides coming ashore on the beach below Penny's White Cliff Bay, Devon, England, home.
Sixteen year old Daisy also finds a connection with Penny, perhaps sharing too much information with Penny putting her in an awkward position at times. But the time they share together is good for motherless Daisy and warms Penny's heart. The problem is, will Daisy believe Penny likes her for herself after the experiences with her dad's former girlfriends?
This story is warm, witty, and a wonderful holiday tale. It takes you through the tumultuous first days of a budding and complicated relationship, cheering for them as they come together and gasping as they trip upon the pitfalls they encounter along the way. It is a sweet holiday story of love and I recommend this Christmas romance.

A wonderfully festive piece of escapism.
I thoroughly enjoyed this story.
I didn’t want to put it down it was such a lovely. I wasn’t quite sure how the story would work out it did keep me changing my mind.
It was such a lovely festive read that draws you into the world. The characters are so relatable and likeable. Penny is a bit of a loner and underdog with the opposite sex. From the start you are rooting for her wanting her to get together with Henry.
Holly manages to encapsulate the village spirit everyone knowing everyone’s business.
It’s a lovely relatable festive story highly recommended.

A delightful and heartwarming story of Penny, a young woman who had been hurt in the past, and Henry and his teenage daughter Daisy, who also have issues. Needless to say, of course there is a HEA, but the path there was rocky at times. Joining the journey to see how it all unfolds was the fun part of this book. Highly recommend this book and author. The only thing I wish there would have been more of is the Christmas theme. It was there, but in the background only.

Holly Martin has done it again. This is the second book i have read by her and will not be the last.
Her books are lovely and heart warming and perfect for a cold winter's night. This is the story of Penny - a lonely woman living in Lilac Cottage - when she decides she needs a lodger for the other half of the cottage - she didnt bank on Henry and Daisy being anything more than lodgers. Daisy is not Henry's wife but his daughter. The 2 singletons clearly have an instant attraction but Daisy is holding them back - she doesnt want her dad dating a lady she actually likes and wants as a friend, in case he screws the friendship up. Penny bonds with Daisy straight away through there love of art. And Henry and Penny very quickly realise they care deeply for each other - but what can they do!
The ending is a bit predictable but i find thats always the case in most chick lit books. Its brilliantly told and will warm your cockles!
