An interesting and somewhat unusual insight into the Dark Ages in a form of a travelog. Good for someone who enjoys history, archaeology and hiking in equal measure; however my impression after reading this book is that a reader is expected to have some knowledge about the material already, otherwise it could quickly become confusing or disjointed. A good present for everyone's grandpa though!
