Epub file on my kindle corrupted (lost old one and had to redownload everything from Amazon) so am unable to access - thank you for the opportunity.
Sarah Pinborough is an interesting author - she has quite the varied backlist of genres under her belt, and I wasn't 100% what I would get with this one! I should note that this book is YA, which isn't the case with a lot of her books.
13 Minutes refers to the amount of time that our main character Natasha spends "dead" after she somehow ends up submerged in icy water. She makes a miraculous recovery and then sets out to solve her own attempted murder. This is categorised as a thriller, but I think it's less of a thriller than a psychological mystery, with characters that I couldn't really care less about sadly. It was fine, some readers would really like this though I feel.
** spoiler alert ** The quality of writing and the strong paciness means I can't dip lower than a 4 star read. But it was going to be 5 star until that ending. Now, I think this is definitely me being an older person having quibbles, which is why I'm so unsure and wavering over rating - see, that ending was too signposted for me, and, more importantly, I wanted to see Tasha come to justice. I wanted to see her paraded over social media. I wanted Becca to be somewhat vindicated and have recognition from her peers that she wasn't crazy. Tasha dying like that - while it was poetic justice, it didn't provide enough closure for me. Like I say, though, that very might well be personal taste on the matter. Other than that, damn, this was good. I could not stop reading. It twisted and turned me, and had me wanting to pick it up every spare moment I had to finish it. Pinborough is an absolute force to be reckoned with.
This is a modern read, looking into the life of school age young teens. Girls especially all vying to be top dog and who is 'most popular' .
A clever use of technology, i.e text messages etc to follow the case of the young girl who was found nearly dead by the river, Had been dead for 13 Minutes and came back. But doesn't remember anything.
Well worth a read to get your heart pumping and your brain cells itching !
