Have to say the title of the book is what drew me in as well the gorgeous cover. I always have a weakness for Christmas books but this was one of the top ones I have read so far.

One Wish in Manhattan by Mandy Baggot

I love Christmas romances set in New York, and the festive atmosphere and beautiful snowy scenery had me really feeling the holiday spirit. The story is heartwarming, sweet, and oh so cozy. I wish I had read it during Christmastime by my tree and with a mug of hot chocolate, because it would have been the perfect book to read during that time! Even so, I loved it in June. I don't usually enjoy romances with children in them, but Angel was my favorite character. So fun!

I was lucky enough to read this book on a flight between the UK and the US. Whilst I wasn't flying into New York I have visited enough to times to feel the magic of the city at Christmas time come alive through this book. I loved going on this journey through the eyes of these characters and through Mandy Baggot's writing.

This book had me on tenterhooks and holding my breath the entire time. Whilst I loved what we got to see on this journey to New York I really felt for Hayley and what she had to go through over the course of this novel. As children often do, Angel provided a real grounding for the book, when things go tough she could come along and lighten the mood and when things got a little too serious, she could be relied upon to add some comic relief.

I even liked Oliver as a character, Often we have our male villain character and we know we shouldn't like him but we're not sure why, Oliver had real depth to him and I appreciated how rounded he was as a character. I just loved the magic of Christmas and New York that this novel brought and I am thankful that I was able to read it in one sitting thanks to a long distance flight!

Firstly thank you to Bookouture for my copy of this book via Netgalley. I love  Christmas and it's my dream to visit New York at Christmas time so this book instantly appealed to me.

Hayley and her daughter Angel are going to visit her brother, Dean in New York for Christmas! I really loved Hayley. She loves her daughter and wants nothing more than for her too be happy. When she hears he daughter's wish she does everything she can to make it come true. Angel is such a great character. She is smart beyond her years and she made me laugh on so many occasions.

When Hayley meets Oliver Drummond she doesn't know what to think. Oliver is known for playing the field and he's just going to distract her from the real reason she came to New York. When the two keep meeting its clear there's a connection of some kind.

Mandy's writing is funny and engaging. This story is perfect for the Christmas season. It's full of hope, love and family.  I can't wait to pick up another of Mandy's books in the near future.

Hayley has had a tough life. She got pregnant at 18 from a one night stand in New York and had to give up her dream of becoming a fashion designer. Her father died recently and her mother blames her for causing it. Her mother has not been very nice to her and she recently quit her job because her boss was a "little too handsy". The best thing in her life is her nine year old daughter Angel. This story has her visiting her brother in New York for the Christmas holidays. She has other reasons for this trip besides a visit. She is hoping to find a job in New York that will be more in line with what she wants to do in her life as well as trying to find Angel's father to fulfill the wish she overheard her making. With just a name and a 10 year old picture, is this an impossible task?

I love the interactions between Hayley and Angel. It’s great to read a mother and daughter bond as Mandy has written them. The two of them together are funny, and real people. Angel is precocious and she and her mother have some pretty funny conversations. Angel adds a lot of the humour to the story with her antics and comments. She is a nine year old going on 40. Hayley has very little self-confidence and often puts herself down without even realizing it. Her brother Dean, his partner Vern and the dog Randy also add humour to the story. Dean supports Hayley in whatever she does and tries to convince her that she is a great person with a lot of skills. Oliver Drummond brings some romance to the book. He’s a great character and his own story adds another dimension to the overall story. He is a bit of a womanizer, a bit of a worrier, has family issues, he’s anxious suffering panic attacks and a bit of a hypochondriac but the story has to have conflict and this definitely added some. He’s a character you’ll love to hate, or hate to love. The conversations between Oliver and Hayley will have you smiling if not laughing out loud.

Overall this is a sweet story surrounding a mother/daughter bond while throwing in Hayley and Oliver’s personal conflicts as well. The setting couldn’t be more fabulous, who doesn’t want to visit New York City during Christmas. Reading this book while watching the snow fall outside just added to the romantic story. The author writes the scenes beautifully and I felt like I was in New York experiencing the various sites. While I really enjoyed the story, parts of it were a bit slow for me and that is why I only rated it a four. I will definitely look for more books by Mandy Baggot. I recommend this holiday read to those who enjoy a romance/humorous/family story.

Thank you so much for being willing to grant me access to this book. Unfortunately, life obligations have prevented me from doing so. If my schedule clears, I plan on reviewing this in the future and will post the review on Amazon and Goodreads. Thank you.

When I wasn’t reading about this book I was thinking about it. Honestly I’d be driving to work thinking about the characters like they were my real life friends.

It really was a story that everyone dreams of being a part of.

The characters were lovable and easy to connect with when I was reading I was completely transported into Hayley’s world. I was lost in the story, I totally forgot about the outside world.

I can’t wait to read more of Mandy’s books. This is the first of her books I have read and it truly was fantastic.
