What to make of the #GlassSword by #VictoriaAveyard. I enjoyed it, but not as much as #RedQueen. It seemed almost like too big of a jump. Mare Barrow is still wonderful and I've liked watching her grow and face her fear. There's honestly plenty to like in this book. The problem, this time, is definitely me. I've had a lot going on and this wasn't the escape I'd hoped for. I'll be reading book 3 soon though because I need to know what happens next.
I really enjoyed reading Red Queen upon its release, and was dying of anticipation to read the sequel - Glass Sword. Alas, the anticipation leading up to the novel was more exciting than the book itself. While I felt the first novel was fast paced and filled with thrilling twists and turns, this . . . this was not. Instead, this one took it's time to get anywhere - dwelling on the same things, feeling stagnant instead of moving the story along in a timely and well written manner. Just not for me - the plot couldn't save it, neither could the characters. Don't think I'll be continuing on with this series.
A fantastic sequel with so much promise of what is to come. Addictive. Compelling and gut-wrenching in equal measure.
I love a good fantasy series and I DEVOURED Red Queen. Glass Sword started in the right direction, and very much in the typical second book in a series it did serve as a bit of a 'filler book'. The search to recruit others like Mare Barrow for the uprising against Silver Royalty. You're introduced to new characters, and thankfully there's character development from the main protagonist Mare. She becomes more realistic in that you begin to pick out flaws in her, instead of thinking she's an absolute queen and not a real person. It's the flaws that make her real and believable.
My only criticism would be that it is a bit of a filler book in the series, but my expectations were reasonably low because of that. Despite this though it wasn't a boring read, and it had a lot for me to be invested in. Glass Sword left me ready and excited for the next installment in the series, and in classic sequel fashion the final chapter had me screaming for to know what happens next.
I must admit to struggling a little bit with this sequel to The Red Queen. Perhaps a little too much of Mare obsessing with Maven a bit, but mostly good parts. On with the next episode!
A really good sequel to a highly enjoyable series. On to the next instalment...
I still enjoyed the glass sword but felt it made a leap from fantasy to dystopia that I wasn't expecting.
