I started reading Holly Smale’s Geek Girl series year ago, when the series had only just started. I read and loved the first four books in the series and I honestly don’t know why I didn’t continue and finish these last two books. Well, as part of my 2021 Series Challenge, I finally picked up the Audiobook of Head Over Heels… and I am so glad that I did. I was instantly sucked back into the fun and geeky world of Harriet Manners and I really enjoyed every moment of it.
I absolutely flew through this audiobook. I was listening to it every chance I got. I absolutely loved being back in the head of Harriet Manners. Certified geek plus model. I just love the whole concept of this series and this fifth book in the series did not disappoint. Now Harriet is at sixth form college and is trying to balance her new friendship group, with modelling and trying not to think about her dreamy ex-boyfriend who broke her heart.
I forgot just how fun loving these books are. From crazy facts that are just dropped in at every moment to the mistakes Harriet makes. You can see the effects of these mistakes coming and are screaming Harriet don’t do it… but of course she’s a naive 16-year-old… of course she does it. And that’s what I love. With some YA books, the 16-year-old characters are super wise and make all these adult choices… in this one? Nope, she makes dumb ass decisions… but so does every teenager so I adore how realistic it all is. I am super excited to finally pick up Harriet’s final novel and see how everything ends for her.
Another solid, if slightly forgettable, addition to the Geek Girl series. You can see why it's been a hit with younger readers, but a trilogy would have been enough. The prose can get a bit repetitive and while Harriet's escapades are entertaining, the tightness of pace and prose in Sophia Bennett's Threads or The Look makes them a more sophisticated recommendation.
I am not going to be reviewing this book, but thank you for the approval.
I just love Geek Girl series so much! I love Harriet Manners and wish she was my best friend. In this 5th book Harriet is apart of team JINTH. which stands for Jasper, India, Natalie, Toby and Harriet. the group of best friends. but they start to get fed up with Harriet as she is going way over the top with everything and planning things way too much. Her friends are starting to feel trapped and bossed around. But after she realizes her mistakes she puts everything right again.
love love love! I don't want this series to end. everyone should read geek girl - Harriet Manners is just an amazing character
5/5 stars.
I love the Geek Girl series, and especially Harriet Manners, and I loved this installment of her adventures. I really liked seeing Harriet develop and become more grown up over the course of the book, and I liked seeing her move on from her first love and discover that first doesn't mean only. I think this is one of my favourite books from the series - it was laugh out loud funny and a joy to read.
