She Can Kill has been on my TBR since 2015, and I can’t believe I just now finished it. In my defense, 2015 was a busy year for me since I was working full-time after finishing college. Now, after finishing the She Can series, this will be one of my favorite series from Melinda Leigh. (Everything she writes is my favorite, really.)

I knew the second I started reading this book it would be hard to put down. Melinda is one author who writes some suspenseful reads and writes not only the protagonists’ POVs, but the antagonist too. You just don’t know who the antagonist is until the very end, and it’s usually not the person you think it is because Melinda throws in twists and turns along the way. This is why Melinda will be one of my favorite Romantic Suspense authors. I love the mystery behind it, but fair warning: Melinda throws in some dark storylines to her books. This one includes not only an antagonist who is after the MMC, but there’s someone in the FMC’s life who is threatening her, too.

I loved both the MCs in this book. Cristan Rojas is a reformed assassin who is trying to keep his daughter safe after what happened in Argentina, but he knows he has to keep moving to keep them safe. Unfortunately, he’s having a hard time moving this time when he cares for someone that he knows needs help, too, especially when he puts this person at risk with his past. I loved Sarah too because she’s trying to live her life after her divorce from her ex-husband, and she wants to do it her way, but her ex-husband is making her life difficult. She doesn’t want to bother anyone with her drama, but there are times she needs assistance. Her sister and soon-to-be brother-in-law play a role in this book, and you’ll recognize them from previous books in the series.

Another reason why I love Melinda’s books is that she not only writes strong, lead heroes, but she does the same with the heroines. Sarah is an FMC who is taking defense classes to protect herself because she refuses to let what happened to her happen again.

Both Cristan and Sarah suffered from traumatic pasts, and they deserved to find love and happiness again. I’m glad they found it in each other. It did take time, but they got there after their pasts were dealt with in different ways.

Another 5-star read from Melinda, and I can’t wait to read the other series she’s written that I’ve missed out on the last several years. I’m officially back in my Romantic Suspense Era!

Melinda Leigh has fast become a favorite of mine. Each series is is different with well thought out plot and curve balls that keep you guessing until the end. She Can Kill is book 6 in this series where we have Cristain and Sarah both trying to escape their past. But their pasts catch up to them. Absolutely loved this! Thank you Melinda and Netgalley for this ARC

(I received a free copy of this book from Net Galley in exchange for an honest review.)

Twelve years ago, Cristan’s wife was murdered. He was forced on the run to keep his infant daughter safe. They’ve finally settled in a small Pennsylvania town, but he can’t shake the feeling that they are being watched.
Newly divorced, Sarah is ready to start over. As her ex becomes increasingly hostile, she appreciates help from a neighbor. But the violence she senses beneath Cristan’s polished manners makes her wary. Then she discovers someone else is stalking her—someone much more dangerous than a jealous ex.
Cristan fears his wife’s killers have caught up with them. Now he must face his nightmarish past and hope his decision to stand his ground doesn’t get them all killed.

I have never read any books in this series. This is the fifth. Reads like it...

This book scored an "average" from me. Cos that's kinda what it was - average.

All the usual things needed for a good romantic thriller novel were here - troubled characters, hidden secrets, life and death stuff. And it was all pretty decently done.

The problem was, for me, that by the end of the day, I had forgotten the main characters names. Nothing about this book stood out for more than the length of time it took to read.

And that's why it scores an "average"...

Another great one by Melinda Leigh! Cristan and Sarah were great characters and I loved reading their story. The mystery was good, and I loved the balance of romance and suspense. A great addition to the series!

She can kill by Melinda Leigh is a mystery and thriller and romance read.
Reformed assassin Cristan Rojas just wants to raise his daughter in peace. But after twelve years on the run, he learns that even the quiet little town of Westbury, Pennsylvania, has many hidden dangers. Although he can’t shake the feeling he’s under surveillance, Cristan’s attraction to Sarah Mitchell continues to grow, as do his concerns that his secret past could jeopardize anyone who gets too close to him.
This was a really enjoyable read with great characters. Such a rollercoaster of a read. Highly recommended. 5*. I voluntarily reviewed an advanced copy of this book from netgalley.

Finally, the mysterious Cristan Rojas gets his story! We first meet him in “She Can Tell,” he is a serious, somewhat stern single father to a young teen girl. taking horseriding lessons from the heroine of that book, Rachel. Tall, dark and handsome, the reader could sense there was more to the wealthy Argentinian. And the glances he would exchange with Rachel’s sister, Sarah, left me wanting more!

Well, we now get that “more”, with Cristan’s backstory….. and it is intense! A poor street urchin taken in by an evil arms dealer, Christopher Navarro rises through the ranks, marries the daughter and becomes an expert assassin. However, once baby Luciana arrives, Christopher is determined to convince his wife to leave the “family business” behind and live a quiet, normal life. When things explode in more ways than one, Christopher flees with Luciana. Twelve years later, “Cristan” and “Lucia” are living in rural Westbury, Pennsylvania. But Cristan knows his sins, and enemies, of past can catch up with him. Cristan can sense the threat closing in…...

As the same time, Sarah Mitchell has divorced her bullying husband and is attempting to raise her two precious little girls in a safe, peaceful environment. But the abusive Troy is determined to destroy Sarah’s hope for the future. Once Troy gets unsupervised visitation with the girls, Sarah’s chance at a normal life seems a distant dream. Yet in the midst of the drama, attraction between Sarah and Cristan sparks and catches fire! Cristan’s determination to be a better man despite his past, and Sarah’s determination to be a stronger woman despite her prior choices, has the reader rooting for these two to have their HEA.

“She Can Kill” is an amazing, well-written, fast-paced edge-of-your-seat romantic suspense read that I will devour over and over again. From the opening chapter to the end, I was hanging on through every twist and turn of the ride! Just when I thought I knew who was the villain…...well, call me surprised! I also enjoyed that the characters from the prior “She Can” books reappear; Mike and Rachel are favorites! I cannot recommend this book, and series, enough!
