Historical crime tends to chime better for me than the contemporary variety so I was hopeful about this book. I also love Scotland having lived there for five years so the setting appealed to me. I think I might have got on better with this book if I had been able to read the first book first. As it was I found the beginning slightly jarring and I didn't really understand what had drawn the 'comically mis-matched' duo together. The story is a little on the ridiculous side and although there were moments where I enjoyed the culture clash between English buffoon and tough man Scotsman, for some reason it just didn't quite chime for me.
