This was an enjoyable read and I would recommend it. thanks for letting me have an advance copy. I'm new to this author.

I thought this was a wonderful book and has really stuck with me. There was a good balance between the two main characters and I found both to be equally fascinating. I can't wait to read other books written by this author.

This was well written but left too many unanswered questions for me.

Good Morning, Midnight might be one of the hardest reviews I’ve had to write. It’s not a book based on plot or pacing, tension or excitement. It’s one based on meaning: what is important in our lives and what are we prepared to do to hold onto it.

There are two main characters: Augustine and Sully. One is isolated in the Artic, cut off from civilisation and trying to survive despite knowing there will be no rescue. The other is returning from Jupiter with only silence beaming back from Earth and no way of knowing what is waiting for her when she reaches home.

There is character development. Augustine learns to love, understands his short-comings and realises that life has passed him by while he was busy trying to become a legend. Sully recognises that her marriage would never be able to work while she was drawn to the stars but that doesn’t mean happiness is beyond her.

But it is about so much more than development. The core of the story is communication. What would we give to hear the voice of a loved one, or even an enemy, when silence is the only thing that surrounds you? Sully isn’t alone, but being cut off from Earth without communication takes its toll on all those aboard her spacecraft. It makes you think about what humanity needs to survive: not just food and water, not the physical things to keep your body going. But emotionally, mentally, what do we need in order to hold onto our humanity?

Good Morning, Midnight is a fairly quick and easy read. It only took a couple of chapters for me to get to grips with it being a gentle paced story, where the emotional implications of what was happening is more important than the physical timeline.

There are a few dips into the past, however, as we learn what has resulted in the characters being the people they are and making the decisions they do. I have to admit that I guessed the connection between two characters and had a flickering of suspicion about a third and what their presence represented. I didn’t, however, realise the depth of that representation. That is a really hard sentence to write without giving anything away, but as I was caught by surprise on the very final page, I don’t want to spoil anything.

I was right: it is hard to write this review. This book touched me on an emotional level and made me think about what it is we struggle to hold onto. Isolation doesn’t have to be the depths of space or the Artic, but can occur in our everyday lives; something these characters experienced before their remote locations. It makes you think about the words unsaid and that, sometimes, our contact with one another is all that is needed to keep us going.

Good Morning, Midnight is heartfelt and moving, even if emotional and sad in places. I would definitely recommend reading this book!
