I normally enjoy Katie's books and whilst I didn't dislike this book by any means, it fell short of what I've come to love.
It was an escapist, easy read, made the more enjoyable for me because we spent family holidays in the area beautifully described in the book. It was pretty clear where the 'would be' romance was to be found and I was happy to keep reading to see how it played out - I'm a sucker for love.
I think where it fell down for me was the implausibility of some of the plot lines. I understand this is fiction and anything can happen, but upping and leaving a midwifery job for a summer sabbatical just wouldn't happen. I also found it hard to accept that based on some distant student experience you'd be capable of catering for a boat full of paying customers. Similarly when a job vacancy conveniently appeared for a health visitor in Scotland, it felt more like an act of nepotism, rather than a realistic option.
I don't like being critical but these niggles got in the way for me. I appreciate that these were constructs to introduce the would be couple and progress their rocky romance but sadly the implausibility over-ruled the romance for me.
I understand that for other readers these things won't matter a jot and in the end as with any reading it all comes down to personal choice.
