I enjoy Emery Lord's writing style and characterisation. An enjoyable summery read with unexpected depth.

Thank you for the opportunity to review this book. I am sorry I did not get to read it before the archive date.

When We Collided follows the story of Jonah and Vivi as they spend their summer together. I found it hard to connect to this book, mainly due to the characterisation of Vivi. I felt like she was a caricature, a manic pixie dream girl. She was incredibly bland and her all personality type depended on her being 'quirky.' This made the book enjoyable, and hard for me to root for her, and any lasting romance between her and Jonah. So sadly, I am not a fan.

I got this book for review ages ago and I am so glad to have finally got around to reading it. I ended up really enjoying it, and I now plan to read the rest of Emery Lord’s books.
I don’t really have too much to say about this book. I really enjoyed the writing. Jonah really made me think of Julian Blackthorn, because they both have large families to look after without parents. I really liked the fact that Vivi liked and appreciated the world around her. I don’t come across a lot of characters like that. I also liked her relationship with her mum. I feel like in every YA book I read the main character hates her parents, and I just can’t relate to that, so I really enjoy reading books where the parent/child relationship is actually good.
The only criticism I really have is that the relationship was kind of instalovey. Other than that, I really enjoyed this.

I'm afraid I can no longer access the edition of this book so cannot give a fair review.

Emery Lord does it again. This is a thought provoking and emotional read that explores the topic of mental health and the impact it has not only on people suffering with their mental health but those around them too.
