Wow, I cannot wait to get my hands on the full book! I will be recommending to our teen book club.
The story is very well written, although a bit slow to start with. The story soon speeds up and held my attention throughout the rest of the book. I thoroughly enjoyed it when it got going
Such an interesting story with characters that keep you hooked the entire way through!
This cover is fantastic! It absolutely drew me in. The excerpt was great too! I really loved the opening! The first few sentences were so powerful, and I have no doubt that anyone who reads them will be incapable of stopping.
This was a short excerpt of the book, but I was quite intrigued.
The story seems to be based on a witch's coven and some very old magic. I liked the fact that it is based in England and laughed at the description of the coven members.
The main characters so far are Milly, Leo and Nan and a magic box which seems to have some fantastic magic powers. I read this late at night and it added an air of mystery to it.
I am sufficiently excited by it and I will look to buy the book.
My only question is, where is their mum, lots of reference to her, is she safe? Hmmmm....
Thanks to NetGalley, Katherine and Elizabeth Corr and the publisher's for this taster.
DNF at 10%. The Witch's Kiss had a promising premise, but unfortunately the opening felt lacking of any immediate conflict, and I didn't connect with the Meredith or her stakes.
I was hooked. The book has a haunting vibe along with history mixed with fairy tales that kept me turning the page. I also adore the sibling relationship between Leo and Merry. I'm looking forward to reading the complete and official book.
Definitely a strong start to an amazing fantasy series! I am hooked and need to get this book ASAP!
Loved the cover and the premise, but the story started off slow and couldn't really connect with Merry. And the sample ended...
I enjoyed the preview I received.
I liked that Merry was a well portrayed character with real concerns about using her powers. She seems like an average teenage girl who struggles with life like the rest of us (except shes a witch). Leo is a great brother, protective and caring. I liked the vibe Gran gave out in the short little snippet I read, she seems like she could be some real fun! I could tell the story line would be good, and even though it is a re-telling, it felt original and like it was really going to be memorable...
I would give this a 3.5/5 as I did not read the entire book.
Any book that is billed to me as a retelling of a classic story, I will most likely look into reading it. I have read many retellings of Beauty and the Beast, but not so much of Sleeping Beauty, which is what I have heard 'The Witch's Kiss' is a retelling of. An old curse created by wizard Gwydion, causes people to turn up dead at the hands of an immortal prince. Merry believes her powers aren't strong enough to break the curse, however her and brother Leo try to break the curse, even though the odds are stacked against them.
First of all, I thought Merry was an okay character. It was nice to read a YA fantasy with a believable, younger female protagonist. Merry actually reads like a real teenager, she does make mistakes and she does moan, BUT ultimately she is brave and does try to break the curse. (I don't want to spoil the ending) She was very relatable for my younger teen years and a great hero, especially paired with her brother Leo, they were a really enjoyable duo to read about. Leo was my favourite character to read about as he was always there for Merry and there was more depth to him than any other character in my opinion.
The addition of Anglo-Saxon history within the story, was actually very refreshing and intricately woven within the novel, it was interesting to read and most important of all actually added to the story and made sense. Furthermore, the romance within the novel wasn't overpowering and was more sweet than overtop. As I personally am not into romance novels I found this to be sweet and tastefully written.
Overall, I did enjoy 'The Witch's Kiss' as I found it to be an interesting take on a classic story. I really enjoyed the Anglo-Saxon history, a relatable heroine and the dynamic between Merry and her Brother Leo. The ending was satisfying and will make you want book two! The ending also tied up any loose ends and was a nice finishing to a well-written novel. I think more should be spoken about 'The Witch's Kiss', I would recommend it to friends and family

Fast-paced, original and incredible. The Witch's Kiss was well-written and easy to read.
As this was only an extract, I'm not able to review the book as a whole. However, what I did read I really liked. This book did not start off slow at all, the plot started moving pretty much straight away and it was interesting, I really do want to find out more. I really enjoyed seeing a close (healthy close) sibling relationship for Merry and Leo, where they fight but they're still important to each other, because it's not something you see much of in YA, especially between a brother and a sister. I especially liked how Leo was the one Merry confided in about her magic and what was going on with Jack and I hope that continues in the rest of the book.
Really unique story, I wanted to finish it and I'm waiting desperately for the entire story to be published because if it's anything like this initial teaser I know I'll love it!
This excerpt was really quite nice. At first I didn't realize that it was only an excerpt but I am okay with that now. The writing had some areas where it was a bit choppy but a lot of it was quite lyrical and much like a fairy tale. If I were able to read the whole book I would have a much better idea. The only thing that was kind of a put off to this book was that this is the first book in a series but it made it sound like this is the second book. Characters mention things that happened previously to other people but it was all in past tense as if we had already knew about all of these things. Other than that it was quite well done.
This book was good. It's a solid read, especially for anyone who is into magic and witches, however, the character's and storyline didn't feel like anything special to me. Mary was a pretty basic character, although she really developed as a character she wasn't too likable. I liked the ending, didn't feel rushed and everything wrapped up well. Would most likely recommend to a friend.
I am a huge fan of young adult and suspense novels. I find that I cannot stick to any one genre of books because I am a lover of all books. When I found A Witch’s Kiss by Katharine Corr and Elizabeth Corr, I was excited to fall in love with the story and characters they created. Sixteen year old Merry is a witch and very unpredictable at best. She has no control over her powers because she has not been able to use her powers much. Her mother does not what her to. She really does remind me of any teenager, dealing with teenage problems, family, exams and school. However, she is close to her brother Leo and he is without powers. They are extremely protective of one another. They truly have a brother and sister love. When Merry starts having dreams about a young man, called Jack. It’s not long before Jack makes an appearance in her real life, not just in her dreams. She soon feels like she is falling in love for Jack, but there is a centuries-old family curse that only she must fight. She must risk her life to stop the awakening. The Witch’s Kiss is an amazing story of love and suspense. I was drawn in from the first page. I feel this book has an outstanding storyline that is well told and suspenseful. A truly great read! **I received this book free in exchange for my honest and unbiased review.**
For Those Who Enjoyed: Once Upon a Time, Twilight, The Graces, RoseBlood, The Bone Witch
I’m not a fan of modern fairy tales. Or even modern protagonists being thrown into fairytales. It’s not terribly original and it’s not doing anything new with the genre as far as fairytale retellings go. The prologue is great. The aesthetics are strong and sets up a spooky atmosphere. And then chapter one brings you right back to a boring modern protagonist, having a really boring, typical teenage experience with her brother. The protagonist is paranoid, obsessed about a killer on the loose (which is a sketchy trope at best). That’s not what I want out of a fairytale. I need something new.
This review is based upon the first 5 chapters of this book.
The story starts off on an exciting back-in-time POV, and from there is bounces back and forth between multiple POVs over different timelines. Merry is an interesting character, a little shallow, but that's OK because her brother adds more depth in the personality department.
It's basically leads in to a darker Sleeping Beauty retelling. I always love when books rewind to explain the past from the past.
So, all-in-all, I loved the cover, I loved the summary, and I loved the first 5 chapters enough to get the book for myself to finish it.
