A book based around Margaret Thatchers time.
I didn’t take to this book at all, was very dramatic but in an opera kind of way.
I’m going to leave it at that.
This might be an understated comedy or a serious book about the very strange, immature people (which would make for an intolerable burden of reading, then - the pun is very much intended). I definitely feel the comedic vibe, so I am not judging the book here. Yet - characters are quite unsympathetic. Take Francis - the fact that Claire stayed in relationship with this good-for-nothing, childish guy, is simply a tragedy and I would swiftly recommend a break-up and then a nice therapist to get into the roots of her codependency - yet why I would want to read about it, when I don't even like Claire? Et cetera, et cetera. The understated comedy and the understated good guy George are the saving graces here, yet this is not enough for me to give more stars than 2.
