Despite some very interesting premise, this historical essay lacks a little depth. The episodes and the characters are presented in outline, the overall picture that one gets is quite hazy and fragmented. Also the reasons that led to process some characters, while others were not only immune from judgment, but also took significant positions among the victorious powers, are not sufficiently clarified, and the whole thing gives the reader the impression of a collection of notes rather than a true essay.
Shame.

This is quite a short book but it contains an awful lot of information. I really enjoyed it and I came away after reading the book feeling as though I had learnt more and its ideal as a starting point to read more on the topic. Highly recommended.
