Just not for me. Didn't like the writing style. I struggled to connect to the characters which made it difficult for me to care about the plot

This is one of those books that had a lot of hype which meant I was really excited going into it. However, after the first few chapters I ended up DNFing it. I just wasn't connecting to the story or characters and eventually lost interest. The premise of the book was appealing at first but sadly, it just wasn't the book for me and didn't grab my attention from in the first couple of chapters.

Incredibly disappointing. The blurb hooked me with a great premise, but unfortunately it didn't follow through and I found myself skim reading towards the end.

This was my first time reading something that involved time travel and I was disappointed. I found it very confusing. The love interest lacked chemistry. However, I am compelled to read the second one as it left on such a cliff hangar that I need to know what happened.

I'm afraid I can no longer access the edition of this book so cannot give a fair review.

Rating: 1,5 stars - DID NOT FINISHED

If this had happened a few years ago, I would force myself to finish it, but I realized that it is ok to DNF some books.

I just don't understand all the hype around this book, it felt incredibly boring to me.. I didn't felt any empathy towars Etta or Nicholas, the action was confusing.. I just kept waiting for something exciting to happen, until 44%. It didn't, and I gave up.

I had to DNF this, unfortunately. It's a shame because on paper it was definitely the kind of book I should like, but I didn't connect with it and I found it was too long and too slow going to carry on with. Too many lengthy descriptions derails what could've been a great plot!

Found this book enchanting and although I found it a bit slow at the start it soon picked up and kept me guessing throughout.

I have to say that i was a little disappointed with this book given all the hype i've seen about it. I was intrigued by the time travel element and couldn't wait to see how the characters reacted to each time period. What i actually got was a romance with incidental time travel and a bit of a scavenger hunt thrown in. I wanted more about the different time periods, more about the mechanics of time travel, why can some people do it others not, what is the history of time travelling, so many more questions about this most interesting element of the book. i was looking forward also to the scavenger hunt part of the book, having to find the time travel passages in the right order and unravelling the clues to fin the treasure. this part of the book was not as good as i'd expected either. In fact most things were just glossed over while the two main characters were falling in love with each other while both going over the same reasons why they couldn't or shouldn't be together.
I will be reading the second book as this book really is only the introduction to book two, and some of the most interesting parts of the book happen right at the end. I need some answers and i'm willing to trudge through another book as long as i get some.
Overall, this is not the best time travel book i've read, i would recommend reading some of the Connie Willis time travel books as i much prefer them.

I have such mixed feelings about this book. After hearing nothing but rave reviews for months beforehand, I did have quite high expectations, especially coming from a renowned YA author. Am I missing something? For me, this book was way too long, slow-paced in a bad way, and I just couldn't click with it. I do admit to being scared by the hype that follows this book, and that may have made me apprehensive, but I REALLY wanted to love this book.

I do not mind a slow-paced book by any means, but this book dragged so much. For something like a 500-page book, the story has to be written in a way that makes the pages fly by, and this was not that. It may just be the writer's style, which sadly would mean I probably wouldn't enjoy her other series too.

Nicholas and Etta as main characters didn't really intrigue me. I feel like they maybe could have developed further, because to me they didn't feel like raw, imperfect human characters. Etta played the part of confused teenager thrust into another world fine, but there was not much more to her. Nicholas as well was also just fine; I never felt myself rooting for him to get together with Etta like I normally do in books.

However, saying all this, I am still intrigued. This book was not the worst I have read by any means, and I'm going to give the sequel a go. I feel like I should give this author a second chance, but if by the end of Wayfarer I'm still not a fan, then that's fine too.
