I am so pleased that Rosalind Laker's books are now available for a new generation. I read many of hers as a teenager and loved them all. This one was new to me and so even more pleased to discover a new title of hers that I had not read. In fact, I have two more to go which are also unknown to me so looking forward to reading them.

This is the story of Thomas Chippendale and the research and reading that must have been undertaken before writing this would have been extensive. It permeates the whole book and adds veracity to the love story that runs throughout the narrative. As well as being an excellent read and and excellent writing, the description of the making of the wood and the gilding and the finishing was totally fascinating
