This is a new series to me, and a new author. What an excellent discovery!

Although this is number 5 in the Eisenmenger-Flemming forensic series, I had no problem with continuity either of the characters or the story line. All flowed seamlessly. This page turner has left me wanting to read more from this author, and particularly the earlier books in the series.

McCarthy has created a delightful cast of characters, including the very helpful cleaning lady turned sleuth, Mrs Christmas.

But don't think for a minute that this is a cosy. It is anything but. In rural England, a young male body is washed up from a river. Forensic examination reveals he has been abused and murdered. And that is only the beginning.

Kirkus Reviews are quoted as saying that the story contains 'the most unsparing postmortem ever. ' I would have to agree.

Thank you to Endeavour Press via Netgalley for providing a digital copy of The Rest is Silence by Keith McCarthy for review. All opinions expressed in this review are entirely my own.
